Yeah, I think that jives with what I said. I just didn't know where in time the Campbellites merged with the Reform Baptists.

Wow! I didn't know you could link that source.

Well Zippyitydodah...since you didn't answer me...YET...I will let you in on a secret...if I were to return to any church right now it would be the Roman Catholic Church.

Kinda blows you out of the water doesn't it?

I am slow, so I didn't see what you said until I posted. Your explanation was better.

I probably am not allowed to post that link, so I'll delete it.

Just so I understand what some of you are saying. Is the claim being made that the Reformed Baptists are from the Cambellite tradition?
No, I believe what is being said is that the Campbellites and the Reform Baptists' doctrines were similar enough that they joined together for a while, but after just a while, they separated again and the Campbellites went on to become Disciples of Christ.

I don't think so. I had forgotten some of the history of the Stone-Campbellite movement until reading it again last night, but I'll try to explain.
"The Stone-Campbell Movement, also known as the Restoration Movement, arose on the frontiers of early nineteenth-century America. Like-minded Methodists, Baptists and Presbyterians abandoned denominational labels in order to be "Christians only." They called followers to join in Christian unity and restore the ideals of the New Testament church, holding authoritative no book but the Bible and believing no creed but Christ.

I think that these churches were referred to more often as restoration churches (not to be confused with churches that consider the BoM to be scripture), than reformed churches, but it is my understanding that the Baptist churches that were part of the Stone-Campbell movement were also referred to as reformed Baptist (not to be confused with Reformed churches in the Calvinistic sense).
"Thomas Campbell was born in County Down, Ireland, February 1, 1763. He died in Bethany, Virginia (now West Virginia), January 4, 1854. He came to America from Scotland in 1807. He was chastised by Pennsylvania church authorities for refusing to use Presbyterian creeds as terms of communion. In 1808 he and others founded the Christian Association of Washington, Pennsylvania. That group adopted the motto, well-known by Disciples, "Where the scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent."

Campbell and others were called "Reformers," for their desire to restore the Church's first century roots. This way of life came to be known as the "Restoration Movement."

I think I will leave that between you and God.

I think you are learning Zippy, for there is nothing ever so personal as the path we choose to take. Once ...Long ago, in the far far away land of South Dakota, I was told by a "good member" that I would never last. I resented him for a very long time. Not because he might have been right but because he was arrogant and snotty about it. Implying I didn't have what it took to be a good Latter-day Saint.

After 26 years of working my gutts out to be the best little Mormon girl I could, I came to realize that NOTHING would ever be enough for those I practiced my faith with and they made me believe it would NEVER be enough for God. I took my leave quietly after a year of careful contemplation and not saying much to anyone.

Now maybe I am misunderstanding you but if you are implying I will return one day you are sadly mistaken. I am adement about that. So I happily line up with the other aposates to say, I will not go gentle into that dark night. I will not give up my new found relief and joy and freedom. I will fight for my right to choose till the day I die.

Casi (whew, end rant...guess I just really resented the implications of your post. )

Not meant to offend. Sorry if it did. I just will never give up hope. Is hope in vain? I don't believe so. That is why I said it is between you and God. I do not know for sure if you will return, but I have my insights.
God bless

One more thing. I am sorry that you feel the way you do. I gave up working on perfection the way you describe it along time ago. Otherwise I probably would have left too.

Read the thread. It's only ten pages long and will give youthe satisfaction of discovering the answer for yourself.

Maybe you just wanted to sin or were offended. I didn't fall into into either one of those classes, so I guess I'm just not as smart as the "good" mormons.

Chris <><

I am beneath the notice of the "good" mormons I guess cuz I am not "smart" enough to be one of them.
