• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Anyone who tried Lucinda Bassett's program against anxiety?

I googled for this on the internet and I found good but also many bad reports.
People wrote that this is a scam and that they were tricked into ordering this and then couldn't get out of it anymore after 4 weeks and that the people there on the phones are only trying to sell you this stuff by using all kinds of manipulative techniques.
But here comes to real kicker. Did you know that her husband committed suicide?!

I really don't know how you feel about this but in my opinion this doesn't really speak for the program. I mean if Lucinda is this great psycho guru who can make anyone feel better and fix everyone why did her own husband kill himself?

neva tried this or heard of it but its very sad that her husband died. I wont get into discussion about how and why her husband died. However I do think that people who have panic/anxiety disorders are vulnerable to people promoting get cured in some many weeks type programmes. I know when I first developed the panic/anxiety disorder I was quite desperate to get a hold of someone or something that could cure me and cure me quick.

What did really help me was to read about what was gong on in my body during a panic attack and learning how to manage the attacks. Like watching out for triggers, not fighting against the fear, which seems strange, well it did to me, as I thought I must fight against the fear feelings. However I learned in my experienced that the more I tried to fight against the fear feelings the worse they became but once I learned to accept them they eased off considerably.

Well, I don't know if this works for anyone. My problem is less general anxiety but more anxiety when I think about certain things like the future or getting a job or stuff like that. That's what scares me. I have a lot of pressure I need to deal with. I was just hoping maybe there is something which could help me deal with this. :(

Okay...Stand by for a strange answer!
A few years ago, I started out on the "anxiety spiral". I had hypochondria, sweats, dizziness, strange thoughts, fears of various kinds, chest pain, insomnia, thoughts running through my mind like a train, and other symptoms. I had no idea what was happening. No idea at all. So one night I saw the Lucinda Bassett advertisement and JUST FROM THE ADVERTISEMENT, found that I have generalized anxiety syndrome. I went to my doctor, who confirmed the diagnosis and started me on SSRI meds for anxiety, which has been a God send!
Now,whether her tapes and programs are "bunkus" or not, I do not know. I DO KNOW that God used her advertisement to inform me what was going on. And saved my sanity, if not my life.
My dad also has GAD, but he refuses all medications for it, and it is an ugly picture. Thank God for Lucinda, though.

Oh, man, I understand THAT one!!!!
I prayed and prayed about taking meds, even though I was having panic attacks, insomnia, and overwhelming fear. I finally agreed to take Zoloft, one of the easiest SSRIs to deal with. The first morning, I took one of the 50 mg pill (smallest form) and cut it down to about 1/6th size, and took that "JUST IN CASE". I finally worked my way up to 25mgs , which my doctor said was NOT enough to get results in a major GAD scenario. I was titrated up to 150 mgs, and have been on that ever since ( I think about 15 years) .
Yes, I do have occasional panic attacks, I do get stressed and have sleeping trouble, and I do get irritable, etc, but it is all now (by the Grace of God) very tolerable.
My dad, that suffers the same thing, has refused to take meds all these years, and he is pretty much a basket case (oh, he still works full time, but the inner man is a mess. He is a world class hypochondriac)
As a friend once told me , sometimes the delivery of a man is by the hands of man, and it is ,of course, no secret to God that many of the best Christians suffer from this (Google "Ray Comfort on Anxiety" for an article on this subject) so He, in His Grace and Mercy, permitted man to develop a medication to , not cure, but relieve this horrid condition.
Of course, Almighty God knew from the beginning the kind of unbelievable stress we of the the Last Days would have in our daily lives.
You can't help but love God for His mercy!

PS This medication DOES NOT make you euphoric, or loopy, or "on cloud nine" all the time, with no concept of reality. I can best describe it as "taking the edge off" stress. Once the edge is off, you are free to start work on fixing the things that stress you, as well as growing into the Image of Christ.

I am glad for you that this stuff works for you.
However it'll also not be hard to find people who took SSRI and didn't get better or who took them and felt worse. That's exactly the problem. I just don't dare simply trying something not knowing what will happen when I do it.
My GP is also against antidepressants. If I asked him he'd advise me not to take them.
