i like this show, especially now since i'm a nanny. she is an amazing woman, with such firmness and warmth that the children seem to adapt to well. you can learn a lot from her about how to work with children and discipline them without making them feel like they're inferior to adults.

I do enjoy the show. I have picked up a few pointers from the Super -Nanny. The question that I have though is these situations did not get that way overnight. How did it get that way and is it going to stay better after the super-nanny leaves? I think it does do a good job of proving that the kids act that way because of the parents though.

I worked as an au-pair in Europe after I graduated from University. Au pair's are essentially a nanny who's treated as member of the family with duties in addition to childcare. Most who go by "nanny", function more as au pair's in today's environment.

I agree that parents have allowed these situations to careen out of control over time. In previous generations, parents knew their role and weren't trying to be their kid's best friend. I child can't be your friend. They are desparate for guidance and leadership in the home. It makes them feel secure and happy. Loving discipline always creates a better parent/child relationship. Come to think of it, I wish my parents had used supernanny's methods on me and my siblings. ;)

Be sure and watch tonight's season finale. Focus on the Family will be running 2 ads during the broadcast; the first such time they have ever done any national TV advertising. I saw the spot at www.family.org and it was really cute. Check it out!

Guilty! I watch it too (with all my posts inthe Tv section of this board I am starting to worry i watch too much TV!!)!! I just love it-- I can't help it. I love how the parents always call on the nanny, then midway become angry with her for "coming into their house and telling them what to do even though she doesnt even know what it is really like," and then shedding tears when she must leave becasue they know how much she has helped. Every week it is the same story but every week I can't stop watching! Not to mention seeing thetransformation of the kids right before your eyes is just astonishing!

I thought it was interesting. It showed a fun and spontaneous side to Jo, I think. One thing that puzzles me and I've asked it on another forum; why do none of the families appear to have religious values? I mean, it's possible to raise kids without a faith tradition, but a lot harder. I also find it difficult to believe that none of the families are religious. The only exception I can remember is when Jo was saying good-by to the Christianson family and the father said, "God Bless". Anyone else wondered about this?
