  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I just got my Associate's and am preparing to transfer. With the May 1 deadline approaching, I still have no clue where I want to go. Anyone else in the same boat as I? Or did you recently get off of it and figure out what you're doing?

I not only transferred once, I transferred twice!
The lesson I learned was to make sure the school you're going to, actually has good connections to get you a job before graduation. I have that where I am now. I didn't at my first 4-year university after getting my AS.

Congratulations!

But you need to do some serious thinking and asking for advice. Why are you at college? You want to study philosophy, right? Why? Where do you want to get to? Which degrees from which colleges will achieve this? What other factors are important to you in a college?

I'm planning to go to seminary (which is why I need to major in philosophy). So, since that's a graduate program, my biggest priorities right now are, "Who can graduate me faster and/or cheaper?"

Ah. I see. Can't really provide any advice on that, but I hope you find something good.

I'm guessing that, as well as "fast" and "cheap," it would also be good for the college to not be totally hostile to the Catholic faith?

Certainly. Of course, shy of strictly Catholic colleges, it's a mixed basket. I won't really know what it's like until I get there. As far as I'm concerned, if there's a Catholic student group-or the college itself is Catholic- I feel like that's a good sign for me.

I'm not too worried about it, though. As long as there's a Catholic parish near campus, I could make due.

I transferred after getting associates degrees as well. I think I told my first choice yes then spent all summer looking at other options and considering time and money and so forth involved (as well as what each university offered). I ended up going to my first choice after asking them for a bigger scholarship a few weeks before the fall semester began.
Good luck!
