  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I am going to see the new X-Men movie in a few days. But my wife is not, she was offended by the trailer where Apocalypse (bad guy) when she heard him say things like "I’ve been called many things over many lifetimes, Ra, Krishna, Yahweh...". Then in another part they talk about how he gathers 4 mutant servants and Havok says “Like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He got that one from the bible” Then someone else says "Or the Bible got that from him.”

What do you think? Me, I'm not offended. Yes I don't like that they used Jesus as if He wasn't a real person. But its just a movie, a fantasy fiction movie. Now if the mutant claimed he was Jesus only and looked like him, maybe I'd have an issue with it. Overall I am not offended by a few lines from a movie. Because if that were the case 99% of the movies I would never see.

I remember when "Kingsman: The Secret Service" came out last year (I think) everyone was in a uproar about the church scene. Christians said it made us out to be killers. I didn't want to see the movie because of that. But later on decided to watch it anyways to see what the fuss was. Turns out isn't wasn't a big deal. (minor spoilers) a gas was used in the church that turned everyone into a primal people who end up trying to kill each other (and do). Now if the scene had played out as a bunch of christians killing each other for no reason over an argument, then I'd be annoyed.

Actually if anything the rest of the movie was far more offensive. I couldn't believe at the end the woman actually showed her "butt and genitals". Such a terrible movie, one which I wasted 2 hours of my life on.

I saw the movie and really enjoyed it. I love Marvel movies. I was actually annoyed at the fact that the actress they brought on to play the part of the young Jean Grey (Sophie Turner of GoT) has blue eyes, when Famke Janssen's Jean Grey has brown eyes. Perhaps they'll just ignore that. Perhaps to some people it doesn't matter, but it annoys the heck out of me.

Fantasy is fantasy. It's nothing new for "powerful" characters in movies to claim themselves as "god." If nothing else, it could be a good discussion point between believers.

Yeah when they have new/different people playing a part it drives me nuts when theres differences, even small ones like the eyes. She could have at least worn colored contacts to match. Such as in Iron Man the War Machine went from one actor to another and it ruined for me. Granted the new guy does a good job too.

I'm a long time comic book reader, and as someone who knows the character of Apocalypse very well, I can safely say he was lying. Apocalypse is a liar and a false prophet (which is why I was dissapointed that Nightcrawler who's a devout christian didn't have more to do in the film). So no worries.

Yeah poor night crawler never gets the right attention. I was sad when in the first movies that hes not shown as Mystiques son. Its made worse by the fact that instead he actually has the "hots" for Mystique. Hes also had so many good moments through the comic history. He and Mystique are tired for my fav. Though I lean more towards him since he can teleport.

Movies where bad guys say things like that never bother me, because they are bad, dumb, and evil. What offends me is continuity errors. I not seen the movie yet, but I know there will be several errors that conflict with the other movies, just as the other prequels already done.
