  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Find comfort in the fact that nothing will happen to you that is not in God's will. Jesus paid the price, and although the thought is scary at what may happen to us as believers, it is temporal and He defeated death for us. Know this, as pointed in scripture, many will say in the end times, "He is here" or "He is over there". If that happens, and you pinch yourself and feel it, Christ has not returned.
Jesus told us the servant is not better than the master, and as He suffered, we would suffer even more. The TV preacher stuff about money, prosperity, and an easy life is fluff and feel-good mumbo jumbo. If Christ was rejected by the world, and someone calls themself His follower yet the world accepts them with open arms, it's time to start questioning yourself.

John 15:19
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

The world hates Christians, if they start loving you then you are doing something wrong is what he is saying.

Anyway, No you should not be worried. The Lord told us many times not to worry. He is not mad at as, unless we flock to the antichrist and he comes back for his virgin bride (the church) and he finds his bride with child.

If his bride has a child, it means she wasn't faithful. Think of a soldier going to war, coming back and his wife has a baby now that couldn't be his.

Stay strong, wait for the Lord and don't listen to traditions of men. Wait until the last trumpet when our true Christ comes.

but which kind of love? I have dealt with non-Christians as recently as earlier this summer who cared about me and were able to get on and work with me for a whole week (basically one on one ) with no issue.

2Ti_1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind

Thanks for sharing this from 2 Timothy. I was trying to think of it.

Well, All or Nothing, it simply requires courage and love to be a follower of Christ. Will our lives be easy? Possibly, but in reality life IS difficult, even in the ordinary times. You will be in good company when the tally is finally added up and we attain salvation. Peace be with you!

scared to DEATH of the end times? As in the part where Jesus comes back in particular?
What's to be scared of?

Rom. 8:1 --> "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."

Col. 3:6 --> "Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,"

God's wrath won't be unleashed on His people. In fact, we'll be the ones coming with Him when He returns:

Rev. 19:14 --> "And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses."

We'll be one of the armies!

scared to DEATH of the end times? As in the part where Jesus comes back in particular?

Remember that we've been living in the end times over these past two thousand years. There has always been trial and tribulation, and Christ has kept His Word, He will never leave nor forsake us, to be with us even until the end of the age.

Rest secure in Christ who saves and loves you.

I'm not entirely sure what about the Lord's coming is scary, when the Lord comes it will be a glorious day when the dead are raised and we are all transformed in His presence. It will be world without end, new heavens and new earth. Every injustice righted, those who perished will be restored, those we mourned will rejoice. The crippled will walk, the blind will see, the deaf will hear, and the mute shall sing for joy ever and ever without end.

I think it's only scare if one buys into the sensationalized futurist dispensational view of the end times.

If you believe Revelation pans out the way guys like Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye insist, then that's going to cultivate a very fearful life, and trust me, that fear won't be relegated simply to end times beliefs. It will permeate every aspect of your worldview because that's what Eschatology does. What you believe God's ultimate plan is will determine how you practice your faith now.

I spent a (thankfully brief) season of my life wound up like a swiss watch over all the futurist ideas of Eschatology, swallowing every conspiracy theory that came my way and yeah I was full of fear. I'm convinced that's the only fruit of that perspective. Fortunately I returned to my roots, patiently studied the Scriptures, their historical context, the traditional view of the church over the course of history as well as some of the other details involved with interpreting Christ's Revelation to John.

Like Crypto said, we have a future hope to look forward to. God's redemption of the universe in Christ coming to completion at Christ's second coming. The fractured, dissonant nature of creation will be fully restored and brought into harmony with its maker. A future hope of resurrection, our own transformation mirroring that of Christ's and heaven and earth brought together once-and-for-all, where we will dwell with God. Swords will be beaten into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks, we'll partner with God (just like we can and do now) to cultivate the earth and be the proper stewards of it that we were meant to be.

To me that sounds incredible, and something to look forward to, not dread.

One reason I am scared is that I am scared God granted me my former wish to NOT go to Heaven, but to pay for my own sins in Hell.

Rom. 10:13 --> "For whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved"

I presume you've called upon the name of the Lord? If so, you have nothing to worry about :)

but then at one point I decided I would rather pay for my sins myself, even though I KNEW it would mean Hell for all time.

If you trust in nothing but the blood Jesus shed for you on the cross as the absolute and full payment for every sin you have ever committed, you have nothing to fear. You are one of the redeemed. But if you are trusting even partly in any kind of a notion that you deserve anything from God, you have good reason to fear, for you are still condemned.

1 John 1:9 --> "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

If you haven't done it already (but I bet you have), tell God that you're sorry for that previous decision, ask Him to forgive you, and He will. Jesus paid the price for our sins -- even when we make stupid decisions. Confession & repentance are what's required to secure your eternal home. You don't need to live in fear if you accept the truth of His love for you.

To me that sounds incredible, and something to look forward to, not dread.

I find this incredible. I am a hard core futurist dispensationalist, and I do not live in fear. In fact, I look to the signs that His coming is near as signs of joy and hope.

In addition, I lived for thirteen years in a neighborhood where there was an average of one successful or attempted murder every two months that took place within one block of my front door. And when people repeatedly warned me to not go to a certain place, I went there to see why it was that Satan wanted so bad to keep me away from there. And I found a little group of believers desperately needing encouragement.

Finally, your claim that the "historical" interpretation of prophecy is "the traditional view of the church over the course of history" is simply incorrect. Futurism is the view set forth in all the very oldest commentaries on Bible Prophecy. In fact, the futurist view was never set forth in any document we have that comes from before well into the third century.
