Anyone else sick of all the historical films comming out?

i'm tired of movies that are
based on books
sequels (except LOTR, SW)
remakes
inspired/based on true stories
based on video games
based on TV shows.

it seems that there is nothing original coming out of hollywood these dayz

...And the "original" stuff that is coming out is largely of the "all style, no substance" variety...

Back to the OP... I'm not sick of historical movies, I'm only sick of bloated epics with bad scripts-- like Troy. It takes more than well-realized battle sequences to woo me over...

BTW, How is this new King Arthur movie supposed to be "historical" beyond being set in Britain at the end of the Roman Empire? I haven't read any reviews, but it looks terrible!

Actually it was the success of Gladiator that led rise to these war epics being made. Now that I think about it, The Last Samurai isn't much a war film, although there is war in it. It's not the focus like other movies, such as Troy. The Last Samurai is more of a character study (of Nathan Algren). The fight scenes and battles are just used to emphasize the physical aspect about it.

Gladiator helped, but Braveheart was the first. Braveheart was a huge success.
All of these other movies took alot of style from Braveheart to help make there movies.
Revenge, big battles, 3 hrs long, similar music scores, long speechs, the word freedom used over and over.

You need to read more history if you think that all the historical aspects is the setting of Britain at the end of the Roman Empire, especially when you have not seen the movie yet.

A man, named Lucius Artorius Castus, that fits the description of King Arthur did exist and the movie acknowledges this by having people call Arthur by his full name.

I saw King Arthur and Troy...Yah, these movies are working on my last nerve, but I still pay $8.00 dollars to see them!!!

I like history, but if watching a historical movie, it must be at least close to accurate. For me.

Im getting a bit sick of them sorta but not really...

I thought Braveheart was the best of them.

King Arthur was an exploration (loosely) on the "what if?" part of Arthurian legend. If you want to read more of (basically) what that storyline and idea could have been, read the "Skystone" by Jack Whyte and the rest of the series. The idea there is what if Arthur was really a Roman raised and living in Briton after the Romans pulled off the island.

Troy was pretty darned spiffy and a fun movie.

I haven't seen Alexander, but going off my girlfriend's comments (she loves King Arthur, Troy and some of the other movies mentioned here) it was terrible.

And in all honesty, I could care less if a movie was entirely accurate or simply loosely based on a legend from the past. How many of those legends have been proved to be entirely true? Arthur hasn't. As far as I can tell, Achilles (and that whole mythical part) haven't and yet people complain that it wasn't accurate. These stories have been retold for the last 2000+ years in some cases, and yet people scream when 1 detail is changed to make a movie more... filmable? Come on.

Now, if it were a war movie, it would be nice to see something accurate there, especially since we live amongst those who suffered through WWII, Vietnam, Korea, etc...

And I would love to see movies about some of the stories in the Bible. Samson, David and Goliath, (a new) Moses, etc... These are stories that can really attract people and I don't think it could hurt to have these biblically and christian-rich stories for the public to see.

I'd already wanted to say that I've always tended to enjoy the historical, period costume movies I've seen purely because they are so beautifully filmed, in magnificent scenery/settings, etc

I'll never forget my highly comical/cynical A Level history teacher: he often said that history depends on who's writing it..rewriting it..re-rewriting it...

I've just realised that he kinda resembled now-historical classic comedian Jimmy (Scnozzle) Durante, who said, "Everybody's got an agenda!"

I actually don't think there is enough of them. As a Christian, I tire of seeing those greek mothology movies (though they have good fight scenes) and their sexual perversion. I desire to see some bible stories bring life to the screen. Sampson, Joshua, Gideon, Elija, Elisha, Jeremiah, King David, ect. Those would be amazing to see. On the other hand, I would not want to see them unless they have a budget of at least $40 mil.

Thats my 2 cents.

..but someone said that, after the huge success of the Passion of the Christ, various Bible epics were planned, inc @ some who you mention, & they often take over a year to make, so maybe in spring...
