Does anyone else remember when snow storms like this one (approx. two feet in less that two days) were pretty much the norm? When anything less than four inches of snow was considered a dusting?

I am sooooooo loving this storm! What a way to kick off the winter season!^_^

Peter, that was definitely a memorable storm. I'll never forget the sound of the trees snapping in the woods. :(

We lived on a road that was one of the 'mains' for the power company between Camden and Belfast, and thankfully never went without power for more than 18 hours. We jumped in the pickup and drove to Rockland, about 15 miles away. There was hardly any ice there, WalMart and many other stores were open, and we were simply amazed that such a short distance away they didn't have the weather we'd had.

Hello fellow New Englanders!

Whew - I've been vacationing in the Australian post-site for the past few weeks. Nice and warm over there!

My husband and I just moved to NH last March - we didn't experience that horrible ice storm you guys mentioned but I remember hearing a lot about it. (We lived in MA at the time, not too far from the border near Seabrook)

I hope we don't get any of those again - I don't think we're equipped to be without heat or electricity for two weeks! We'd have to hike off to Aussie land for real!

I remember the ice storm of '98..We went 14 days without power. I have never been so ugly before or since.
We were about the same w/o power. Thankfully we had a generator (had to get the electricity running so we could milk the cows and give them water) so we could take showers and fill up water jugs. We have a wood stove so my mom heated up soup on the wood stove and we were always warm.

We have a big willow tree on our front lawn and lost a lot of large branches from that tree.

I remember around that time and earlier where we had about 5-6 feet of snow. My brother and I used to get our shovels and dig tunnels under the snow on our side lawn (it's huge) and crawl through the tunnels.

Man, those were the days. Now we don't even have a foot of snow and it's January.... :(

MsDe - are those kittens in your profile your cats? That is absolutely the coolest picture.
It must be a Maineiac thang 'cause I love the snow and stuff too. :)

Nope, not my cats thankfully! Can you imagine what the house would look like after one day with those two around? ^_^ I adore cats though, and found that pic online and fell in love with it. :) They're just so darn cute! heh

We lived on a "main" line to(i live on route 4) but unfortunately a big truck got caught on some wires and ripped poles down just as the state ran out of poles. So, we were without power for 5 days. I will never forget that I had to work 14 hour days for almost a week afterwards to catch up on everything:cry: .
