I like to crochet. My favorite projects are hats and scarves, though I also do afghans.Ldyjarhead said:Hi everyone, I'm brand spankin' new here.
I'm Marie Anne and one of my favorite hobbies is crocheting. I make baby blankets, full sized afghans, lapghans, scarves, kitchen sets (dishcloths, hot pads, placemats). I'm working on afghans and scarves now for a group I barter with and will be getting some nice Christmas presents.

You go girl!! I know exactly how you feel. I started crocheting just a few years ago and I still get so happy when I can start and complete a project without my mom's input!! And then! I get so psyched at how great they come out! It's not arrogance, I think it's surprise!Cright said:It's blue pink and white and turning out to be my best one yet. (It's only my 3rd project completed without the help of my grandma! The other two were my fiance's scarf and a different baby blanket)

If you want some easy projects go to www.lionbrand.com They have some great free patterns. OH! If you can double crochet they have this really nice prayer shawl. It's just a double crochet. I used Lion Brand jiffy yarn and made a few for my sisters last Christmas. Look for the link for free patterns to the left. You can even search for the prayer shawl. They may show it in the knitting patterns but just scroll down for the crochet instructions. Have fun!

Unfortunately there's not much you can do with bright orange or bright pink table mats!
Crochet flowers are so cool. I love them! I should make some more. Lion brand yarn just put a pattern for a rosette on their web site. It's really very cute but perhaps your book already has one similar to that. There are quite a few good flower patterns on Stargazer's Web site although you have to search around a lot. I want to make a pile of flowers and then attach them to a totebag. I also like putting them on hats, which is kind of trendy right now. Some are putting them on the ends of scarves, or even on chockers.futurehope said:I crochet, but not very well. My projects tend to fluctuate. They get wider and then thinner and then wider again.
I just finished a scarf. And my grandmother gave me a crochet book and the only thing I have been able to figure out was the flowers so I have like 20 of them.
Turning Chains:
At beginning of rows, a certain number of chains are required to bring work up to the level of the stitch that is to be made. The number of chains depends on the height of the stitch and usually replaces the first stitch of each new row. When instructions place turning chains at the end of a row, turn work right to left to avoid twisting chain unless you're left handed, then you'd turn workd from left to right. Below is a guide for the number of chains required to equal the stitch height:
- Single crochet: chain 1 to turn, insert hook in 1st stitch of new row.
- Half double crochet: chain 2 to turn, insert hook in 2nd stitch of new row.
- Double crochet: chain 3 to turn, insert hook in 2nd stitch of new row.
Variations apply to all basic rules and will depend on what you prefer in your work.
- Triple crochet: chain 4 to turn, insert hook in 2nd stitch of new row.
