The Fastest Stream

the fastest stream down the steepest hillside
forms, along the way,
pools
protected bits of unhurry
sequestered grail of stillness
opportunities for reflection,
introspection,
sometimes...genuflection

the only thing that scurries here is the water bug
or the fish that would eat it
twigs and heroes can anchor here
for a time,
basking exposed
unopposed
sublime

miles to go before the sleep
where none will weep
but for now,
next a crashing torrent,
separate peace embraces
encases...
Devil huffs abhorrent.

Baptismal of Life

Life, a baptismal,
Decanting,
Removing abysmal dregs -
Pouring out renewed,
Not dismal;

Creator, assembling for Himself
Resemblance of Himself -
Wine, refined, poured out,
Imbued.

Patience in SADD-ness

Ah, January, welcome friend,
Your frosty face appears in time
To blanket nerves exposed, to mend
Our weary with your swaddling rime.

Frozen trickles carved on panes,
Silent, subtle, hardened trails,
Gossamer chrysalis formed from skeins
Of finest thread hued winter pale,

Coalesce and join intent,
Begirding all in chill embrace
Though to our Phoenix...Heaven sent,
Cold coals perceive their healing place.

Post-Yuletide folk may sense a surge,
Crescendo as unsated ache
Grows bearish in strong primal urge
To seek a dark, suspended state

Where prior year and all its grief,
In fertile space may fallow lay,
Be pierced by tender shoots, belief
That darkened tombs can be arrayed.

Through scourge of winter, swaddled, still,
Life renewed slowly creeps,
One day a Son will warm our sill,
Butterflies then be released!

Thinking About MLK

a single drop of water
multiplied
is a trickle
a brook
a pond
an ocean

a solitary photon
multiplied
is a twinkle
a rainbow
dawn
scorching heat

the tiniest idea
multiplied
is an inkling
a thought
a conviction
a cause
a movement

all three
from inauspicious beginnings
can change the landscape
