• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi wild, I saw a few of your posts about Tourette's. No matter how long you've had it for, it is definitely the Lords will to deliver you from it. It's not the Lords will to have something overtake people and cause them to speak curse words. That's the enemy. I would get to a gospel preaching non denominational born again bible preaching church in your area that believes in healing and deliverance. They will anoint, pray with you and cast it out. Try an Assembly of God church. Anyway I wouldn't put it off and don't let any excuse stop you from going!

Thanks for replying! I've been going to a great bible teaching non dem church for quite a few years now. I've received lots of healing in other areas but I still have Tourette's syndrome. I really hate having it. I've been prayed for countless times and I even speak my healing in Christ out loud and believe by faith that I'm healed, but I still have it and I'm 26 now. I know God can heal me and that He didn't give me Tourette's, so why is He withholding a miraculous miracle of sudden healing?

I honestly believe that He works all things out for good, so maybe He's got someway of working the Tourette's out for good somehow. After so long of praying for healing, I've kinda just accepted the fact that this is what I have and just deal with it... But somedays, like today, I really let loose and have a few angry words with God about the Tourette's. seriously repenting afterwords though.

I guess there's not anyone else on here with Tourette's syndrome to chat with and get and give Godly advice... I wonder if there will ever be a Tourette's syndrome forum on here. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

I kinda know how you feel. I have been trusting God for healing for my ADHD. I am able to manage the illness through exercise (seems to be what helps the most). I know that God give people the wisdom to understand a disease. So use those methods as well.

Sometimes God could leave the illness to show his grace and strength through you. Paul the apostle had a "thorn in the flesh". He chose not to talk about it but kept his focus on God. Maybe you might want to focus your conversation on God and let Him direct your speech.

I have bad spells as well, but I jump back on the horse as continue for God.

I hope this helps

Please refrain from calling this "the enemy" and "casting it out" like it's demonic possession or something! Tourette's is not just curse words, there is a whole host of symptoms that fall under Tourette's, it's not just the swearing, and it has nothing to do with being indwelt with a demon. Study it, and for God's sake, start living in the here and now. It's not something that needs to be "cast out". It's a neurological disorder!

If u do, how did u learn to deal with it?

Ive had it since age 4 and had to learn a lot but I'm interested in learning more from other people with tourettes syndrome.

Hi WildSurrender, here is a more compassionate answer than Anner gave you, up above. The advice to seek a church and prayer is fine, but for crying out loud, ask other believers to "cast it out"? Ridiculous. This what I tell my son with Tourette's. Tourette's makes him unique and special. Not special in a bad way, but in a different way. God loves him right where he's at. There's nothing wrong with him, even if he has it the rest of his life. Telling a person with TS to stop ticking, is like telling a blind man, "just see", or a deaf person, "just open your ears", or a disabled person to "just walk". So I'll tell you what I tell my son. Tourette's makes you unique and special.

I think that everything Jesus said, was motivated by tourette's (kept in check by the Holy Spirit).

I could be wrong, but remember: Jesus had no seed from His Father, it was not possible for Him to speak on His own Strength.

As He said "these words are not mine, but the Father's who sent Me" - that's basically tourette's, right there.
