  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

im working on getting a+ certified. i talked to a tech support guy at best buy and he said that he was a+ certified (after hesitating for a few seconds after i asked the question) and then he said that a+ certification is useless and not needed.

Is this true? I mean anybody can learn how computers work, but if you are a+ certified, everybody knows that you are good on computers.

also i believe this would look good on a resume.

so, shall i still go for it? my goal is to get it done by june 15th (my 16th birthday)

It won't hurt. But certifications do not mean someones good on computers. Daily I hear dumb questions from people with mcse, ccna, sun certifications. Some people test well and arn't good in real life application.

Starting out any cert will help you get a leg up on people with out one, so go for it. Good luck too!

yeah im A+ certified.
not very hard, but you still have to study pretty hard for it.
id say go for it, at your age it will look very good on your resume, but one thing that looks better on a resume is hands on experience (preferably in the workforce) but the A+ is a start.

All the best mate! :)

imo, the A+ certification doesn't mean you're great at computers. it just basically means that you can take apart and put back together a basic computer, and use the windows OS better than the average joe. i'm taking a hardware class in college now and we are using an A+ training book and most of the stuff is stuff i already knew. if u don't know a lot about computers than it will help. and for the most part, all it is is just another piece of paper that employers like to see, imo

Yeah the A+ certification is like any other certification or degree, it still depends on the individual. I know some people as others have stated with very high commendable certifications but do not retain or actually know the information. If you have the time and money to take the test it is not a bad thing to add as a certification, however, there is a overflow of certifications in the market today and it is hard to weed out the good and the bad when it is a P or F test. I think if you want to go the route of adding certifications on your resume then this is definately the first place to start. I have a MCSE+XP+Internet but the Internet is no longer tested but I still add it as a certification not because it is a worthless certification but because it shows that I am keeping up with my certifications.

Certification matters most to employers who are selling *you*... If you want to work for outfits that sell technician's time to other companies (and there are quite a few) many of those require certification. If you already know quite a bit about computers, studying for the A+ will be easy, and studying for it will fill in details that help other details fall into place and make sense. If you don't know computers already, it will be rote memorization and won't do you very much good, other than the fact that you will hold the cert. ;)

I am working on getting certified myself. I think that the "Best Buy guy" either aint ceritfied or is saying that because he is working at "BEST BUY". The certification gives you lots more job opertunitys and you will get paid a whole lot more with it.

Plus you proble wont get stuck working at "BEST BUY".

Yes I am.

I didnt read what everyone else posted buy here is my 2 cents.

If it a great 1st certification. Most employers are requiring the A+ and at least one other certification.

Granted certs don't guarantee you know what your talking about and if I was an employer I wouldn't care about certs.
