  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Any members of the ELCA/ELCIC here writers? Anyone have a favorite genre of writing they prefer to do? And to open it up, for all you avid readers who don't like to write much, what genre do you prefer to read? (Not necessarily within religious circles of literature, though not excluding that either).

Myself, I like to write, but I don't have the time to do it as much as I'd like. I especially like writing vampire fiction. It's a fun escape, and I find I can weave Christianity into that type of fiction easier than other types.

The most recent creative writing that I did was a rhymed, common meter paraphrase of the Lord's Prayer.

In the past, I've written comic short stories, sci-fi, a short mystery, and a novella.

None of it has been published...and that's probably just as well.

I love writing! I'm an excellent poet and essayist, and a somewhat mediocre writer of fiction and music, though I like doing anything that involves getting my fingers inky. I enjoy trying new things- my latest project has been a "fan fiction" based on the Coen Brother's excellent film adaptation of a rather dull Sinclair novella.

I like to read as well, and I am an avid book borrower so my "genre" tends to be whatever friends and family are reading, though the used book store will nab me sometimes as well. Right now, I've plunged into "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Angency" and "The God Delusion"; both works of fiction, but I'm enjoying the former more!

Mostly the writing I have done has been essays, but now its mostly sermons.
I have a number of sermons that have been short stories and/or narrative style.

I have been thinking quite a bit about writing a book of devotions or a book on theology for lay people that isn't in the style of "Purpose Driven Life". I also write quite a bit on my blog, but I don't know what genre that would fall into...

While I would like to one day do some writings in theology (purhaps a degree or two down the road from now) I am in the early processes of a novel I hope to get published this year. It is an Arthurian tale, so I would classify it as a form of midevil fatasy I suppose.
If you are interested in an amazing ELCA author, I would recommend a mentor of mine, Walter Wangerin Jr. He has written many novels and books. He posesses a unique class and gift in story-telling and story-theology. His most famous work is probalby "The Book of God" it is the Bible in the form of a novel. Great man, excellent writer. If one day I might be half the writer he is, that is an acclomplishment.
But for now I'll keep you posted with my rather elementary efforts at writing and if they ever get me anywhere.
Peace be with you.
