Well, I am not a smoker and I don't plan on becoming a smoker. However, I am thinking about coming up with ways to help some smokers I may know, how to overcome and deal with it. I have not had any previous experience with this and whatever, so if you were successful at quiting or you are a counsellor that have dealt with this could you please post any ideas or ways you used to help people struggling with this problem.

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. Hmmm...
Quitting Smoking is HARD...
I've got little over 3 weeks in but I feel confident that i can win this time...
I WILL win this time
Anyways my advice just shy of hypnotizing or brain washing, is that you have to help peoples seeth habit as a burden...
Once I couldn't fathom life without my buddy (cigarettes) I would literally flip-out if I didn't have 'em...Thinking about my next cigarette in any given situation started to just stink, so once I felt like a complete slave, it made it easier, it made quitting like a big challege, I used to envy non-smokers...
Now with the grace of God he has made it possible for me to be super-duper glad to request the non-smoking section at restaurants...

There is a passage in the bible about our bodies being the temple of God. So everytime I craved a cigarette I would run through a little dialogue...
My body is the temple of God
The church is the temple of God
Would I ever go into the middle of a church and start a fire?
No.
If I treat my body with the same respect that I would treat a church I would never have another cigarette.
God gave me this body to house His Holy Spirit, if I can't treat my body with respect than I can at least treat God's Holy Spirit with respect.
I would run through this dialogue and think about my body's health and think about how the inside of my church looked.
Also, my hubby said he'd buy me this very expensive bible I wanted if I quit, so when I got the bible I wrote down the date I quit....March 31, 1999. About seven years........Haven't smoked yet!!!!

Amen!!! Cavymom. When I met that special lady in my life, and she said"Lips that touch cigaretts won`t touch mine!" I prayed to GOD to help me to quit. GOD replied we are created in His image and we have dominion over the Earth. Satan is envious of us and will use many different means to rob,steal,or destroy our well being in serving GOD. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
