  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well herps in general?

I have a 1 year old Red Tailed Boa. Its awesome. I'm considering getting a Rainbow Boa. A good friend of mine has one and it is very pretty (and a little more docile than the one I have, although he's friendly).

I'm also interested in Geckos and Bearded Dragons, but I don't have enough room or time for too many pets. When my kids get a little older I'll probably expand my collection.

So, what kind of herps do you guys like?

Hiya, Ice! Welcome to CF.

I love snakes! :) Always have. I don't have one, but would like to. I volunteered as a docent at our local zoo, and my goal was to be able to work in the "Discovery" room where we could handle the non-venomous snakes and show them to the public. However, life intervened, and I wasn't able to continue volunteering the length of time it took to qualify. Perhaps when I retire...

I'm not as into the lizards, but they are beautiful. Had hermit crabs for years, though. Don't mind in the least having them crawling on my clothes. :) I know. Not herps. But they are a little out of the ordinary.

So what does your family think of your critters?

Family loves them. Especially my 2 year old son. I can't handle Toby (that is the snake's name) without my son wanting to hold him as much as he can. My wife loves him too, but Toby is much more active than a previous snake we owned (which died after 2 months, it was ill from the shop.....which explains why it wasn't active) a few years ago. It took her some getting used to have fast Toby was. Now things are pretty cool.

Of course ask me that again in about 2-3 years when Toby has gotten much larger. ;)

I kind of like snakes but, I wouldn't want to own one. I couldn't give anything live food. I heard the big ones eat mice but, they are cool looking... Do you have to give your snake live food?

You dont have to. You can train them to eat dead food but it takes alot of time because Snakes like a challenge and plus they can smell food that's alive oppose to dead food. But you buy some dead food and put some kind of smell to it or do something to make the Snake think it is alive....I forgot what it is but there is something like that you can do.
