  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

crafttalk on the internet is a great place to get ideas for soaping.

I have made cold processed soap. Some batches turned out fine others not so good. It is fun. I have done the melt and pour but like the challenge of the cold process alot. I have made lotion bars also.
Have fun..

I do M&P quite a bit, but lately I've been getting into doing unscented basic CP at a 7% lye discount in bulk, then rebatching it as I need it. This way I can mold 1 or 2 bars at a time as I need them and I have a great deal more variety of fragrance oils and EOs to choose from. Some of my fragrances, like chocolate and vanilla, tend to get eaten up by the lye in CP, and I can use a greater variety of colorants this way as well.

I've got a good and easy recipe for CP if anyone is interested. You need a blender with a big jar--this one is not cooked on top of a stove, but rather baked.

650 gm lard.
300 gm 76 degree coconut oil
144 gm lye
320 gm distilled or rain water
60 cc olive oil.

I melt the lard and coconut oil together and place in the blender. I usually add my colorants at this time (pigment dyes) and blend a few seconds until evenly distributed. I then stir the lye into the water in a lye proof pitcher and add. I blend on low a few seconds at a time until I get a light trace. (solution looks like gravy or thin pudding) I add the olive oil, blend a few more seconds until well incorporated, then add the fragrance oil and blend in. Then I pour it into a lightly greased silicon baking pan. It sets up hard quickly--usually overnight. Then I bake it in an oven at 160 degrees for 2 hours, let it cool, and cut it into bars. The baking fully cures it and it's ready to use. I haven't had a failure with this one yet.
