  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a college commuter going into my junior year. I was just wondering how other commuters feel about being a commuter. What has your experience with this been? Have you been able to make any friends? How far do you commute from? Do you regret the choice to be a commuter?

I went to a commuter university. The only thing it really lacked was a campus "life." i.e., once class was over everyone went home.

But we still got together, so there is nothing I really regret, except the dings one my car from a ridiculously packed in parking garage. Everyone had at least one. It was like a bumper sticker.

Yes, I can agree with you on that one. The university where I go has such small parking spaces that it doesn't matter where you part your gonna get a ding in the vehicle. I drive a truck too, so I have even more dings because my vehicle is a bit bigger than the little cars.

It did become a joke between my friend and I. By the time I started my masters I lived close enough to ride my bike. Then one day someone stole my seat.
I think one of the things that annoys me the most is how the residents at my campus will drive and park in the commuters lot and sometimes there's nowhere to park. My campus is pretty small too so that adds to the frustration.

There is a certain sense of freedom with commuting though.

Yes there is, you are not confined to being on campus all the time. When you finish your classes you know you are free for the rest of the day.

I commuted. Honestly, friendships came up in a couple of places for me.

1) At the campus ministry I went to. I recommend that for every Jesus-follower in college.
2) In the cafeteria. I sit by someone I know, someone they know sits by them, etc, people meet, converse, eat between classes, maybe even play some cards.
