my handiwork is decorating cakes, have done it for nearly 8 years self taught then after learning much on my own took some classes to learn more. My favorite cakes to decorate are birthday and holiday cakes. I don't care to do wedding cakes so I turn those orders down. I go for the more detailed decorating in birthday cakes.

I decorate cakes as a hobby, just because it is fun.

So I do not have much, still fumbling around trying to figure out how to do things, any advice how to get the cake to have the right consistency so it does not crumble when I apply the icing layer, for the fondant prep?

Still trying to figure out fondant as well, that is a tricky bunch, but, I just like to do it, because, cake makes everything better

God Bless

I'm trying to learn to decorate cakes and in the process of finding a class I can take. I have made a wedding cake and a 50th anniversary cake. They turned out good but I was nervous! Actually, I was thinking of making some cupcakes to practice on this weekend. ^_^

The Wilton web site has good information....which is where I got my wedding cake recipe. Moist! Yet holds together.

I've decorated dozens of cakes, some sold, most just for family, for more than 20 years now, actually (hard to believe!) A friend taught me the basics, against my protest that I could never do it! It's really not so hard, just . . messy . . *grins*

I've never thought of the Wilton site. One of the best things I found to make icing easier is one of those bent spreaders, so you can get down nice and flat against the cake.
