  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What the heck.....I am surprised to see that comment on a Christian message board. How does one distinguish "black rap and white rap"?
I did not know vocal chords could be seperated by race :amen: :amen:
Can I get an Amen?
Actually, they're vocal folds and yes they do differ between races, medically speaking.

Uh...why are you surprised to see this? It's not a big deal...I am just not into the 'deep' voice. And, yes, there is a big difference! Now, there are black rappers who do sound like white ones...and I like them. But, there is a huge difference in the sound, and quite a bit a difference in the style...and however this is surprising to see on a Christian Forum...it better not be what I think it is...cuz I distinctly stated that I am not racist, and to tell you the truth...the statement I made was not racist. Oh...and black rap is most of the time considered as "gangsta" and I'm not all to into it. Eminem is great, but these lil bow wow peeps are just not my thing...sorry...:(

I know you didn't mean anything by it, but when you have this many people on a forum we have to take a little extra care in how we word things. Sometimes we have to over-explain what we mean.

Yes, I am surprised to see that type of comment on a Christian message board!!!! You can say that there are different styles of RAP....but it is not based on race.
To clear things up...I did not refer to you as a racist, I don't know anything about you...but that statement could be considered a racist statement.
Would you consider this statement somewhat racist? " I only like Black ministers because they are more emotional than White ministers"
To me...I would get offended by a statement like that.
This is statement would be putting a generalization on an entire race of people. But I am aware that there are some in "The Body" that still think that way.

Is there such a thing as "white" country and "black" country Christian music?
Is there such a thing as "white" punk, "black" punk, or "latino" punk Christian music?
Is there such a thing as "white" jazz, and "black" jazz Christian music?

All black rappers do not have deep voices!!!!!!
All white rappers do not have high voices!!!!!!!
All Latino rappers do not rap faster than anyone else!!!!!!
Do you see the generalization of those comments?

I just believe God uses whomever, whenever, and however it pleasess him.
"Christians" should not go around saying that I will not listen to this or that person because they are of a particular race. Now I do have a particular sound that I prefer to listen to, but it is not based on a race. It is based on style.

Heather, I don't have a problem....I just dislike stereotyping in The Body.
Don't get me wrong...There are different styles (genre) of music, but when it comes to Kingdom things it is not based one's race........

Be Blessed!!!!!

This is nitpicky. She really didn't mean anything by it and you seem understand that.
You stated why you made the comment that you did, which is also understandable.

You say that you don't like stereotyping in the body but there's tons of it. Especially as applied to denominations.
"Baptists this" Or "Pentocostals that" for example. Oh, but people don't sue each other or get in fights because of those comments. Why not? Is stereotyping an entire denomination more acceptable than an entire race? What if I said "Black Baptists <insert stereotype>"? Or "White Pentacostals <insert stereotype>"? Suddenly, it's a race issue and we have something to fight about. What would happen if a kid came into your church with torn jeans, tatoos, and piercings all over his face, and green hair? Do you think he would be widely accepted as a follower of Christ or would there be people who would stereotype him based on his appearance? Isn't that division caused by stereotype?
If I pull into my church parking lot with KJ52 blasting through my speakers (Which I have done) will I still be accepted? I'll tell you from experience that the answer is: "Yes by most" "no by some".
Who are the one's that give me strange looks? The older people. Now, am I stereotyping older people? NO. I'm making that statement based on my experience that the older people stare at me when I pull in with rap playing on my stereo. Some have even asked me not to do it again. So I just turn it down. Some of the younger people have told my kids that they think I'm cool because I listen to rap and rock and whatever. That statement is not a stereotype, it's a statement based on experience. Now, as far as Gospel music goes...I prefer Black artists because white artists by adn large based on all Gospel music I have heard don't have that great voice quality necessary for that style of music. Show me a white Gospel singer that can belt it out like Mahalia Jackson and I'l reconsider my view point. I'm not saying that it's imposible, I'm just saying I haven't heard it yet.

It's obvious that of all the Christian rap artists Heather has heard she prefers the white ones. That is not a stereotype. She misworded it and offended you but her intent was not to single out an entire race. Only certain artists who happen to be of the same race. Now, if she were to say that she doesn't prefer black artists because of their race, that's another story.
The bottom line is: Heather is limiting her comments to a select group of artists based on her experience, not an entire race based on prejudice. I really think you read too much into it.
I truly think that if we were less prone to being offended by every little thing someone says we would be a stronger body.
I also understand that you were trying to hold Heather accountable which, as a Christian, would be the right thing to do and I commend you on that. I just want to point out that Heather is not so insensitive that she would come on a public discussion forum and make blatant racist remarks.

Enough ranting. I think you both got each other's point.

I have never heard of that before....but that does not mean it is not true..
Thanx....
The vocal folds differ between sexes too as I'm positive you already know. I think that is God's way of keeping harmony between man and woman both symbolically and literally.

BTW, you weren't wrong with anything you said. I just felt your focus was misdirected.

I did misword that...sorry, forgive me? Oh, and it was based on experience...and to let you know...D12 is awesome...so black rap isn't HORRIBLE or BAD in any way, it's just a pref. Anyway, point is well taken, I agree! THANK YOU!!!! ;) You guyz are awesome...and it's in agreement here that their voices from races do tend to be different! :)

Thanks for holding me accountable [but, I really didn't quite honestly understand what for...that I actually meant. Maybe my phrasings...whatever! ;)].

Be blessed!

Rhythm and Poetry all the way!!!!!!!!!
The first step to end hate is to not make false accusations of hate. If you had read the jabs between myself and Musikdude, you would have noticed the tongue in cheek bantering. This was all in good fun, so lighten up. I don't like rap, and that's OK.
