  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone here ever drop a baby? When I was 16-17 I was carrying my 8 month old niece downstairs. Well I almost tripped and she was fussing around already and she flew out of my hands and began to fall... Well excercising superhero like reflexes ;) I reached out and caught her leg before her head broke the landing. She thought it was fun, she didnt even cry.

Needless to say I was really glad I caught her. Any of you have a similar story?

Two stories:

My 3 month old rolled off the kitchen table when I grabbed the phone. She landed smack on her face. I heard the smack as she hit the linoleum. Didn't utter a peep. I think she was saving her voice for when our geese would chase her around the house. Screamed bloody murder she did. I finally gave her a stick to chase the geese with. It was a mexican stand-off after that.

An employee left her daughter in a carrier in a chair in my office. The floor was cement covered with linoleum. The baby twitched, her carrier dumped her and it sounded like a 5 gallon chunk of jello hitting the floor. Baby was fine.

Biology is a wonderful thing.

:)

My dad was swinging me on a big-kid swing set when I was 5. For some reason I let go when I reached the apogee. He stepped forward and caught me by my heels before I hit the hard packed dirt head first.
God works through humans often to save others. And I am very glad. :)

When my eldest son was still in is car seat carrier I had picked him up to move him from where he was. He wasn't buckled in at the time and the handle lock malfunctioned and it tipped forward. He fell out face first towards the corner of a coffee table. I don't know how I did it, but before I knew it, I had squatted down and caught him with my arm under him, just inches from the table. Everyone just stared wondering how I did it. I still don't know to this day how it happend, just reflex I suppose (pretty fast reflexes). From that moment on we made sure our kids were strapped into their carriers, and we had the handle fixed (there was a recall on the carrier and because of the handles so we got a free part that fixed the handle).
It's kinda cool to hear that others have had similar mind-blowing experiences.

I've never dropped a baby but I did fall down with one in my arms once. I was carrying a lady's baby in my arms out the door of church so I could go home with her and babysit this baby. I forgot about the step-down right outside the church door, and down I went! But I held that baby tight! My poor knees took the fall and it was agonizing. Both knees were skinned and bleeding. I wanted to just go home and cry and forget babysitting. The dumb mom just shuffled us into her car and didn't even take the baby from me or bother to ask how I was doing!

I have a story. We lived in an old "farm house" style home. The only access to this house was across a swinging bridge. The bridge was 300 feet long and was about 30feet above the water level. (Thats about the size of a football field, right? ) One day , I had to go to town for some things. I had my 2 week old baby in my hands and proceeded to cross the bridge. As I approached the uprights that held the bridge, I suddenly found my right leg dangling from the hole I fell in. I went down immediately and instinctually held tight to my baby. Thank God I did :)

newbeliever :)

P.S. We had the house for sale by the end of that week. :D

I remember a story about my sister. I would have been about three and a half at the time... my dad was changing her, and had her laying on the change table. He needed a washcloth or something so he went around the corner into the bathroom to get one. She was just learning how to move herself, and managed to push herself off the table head first. *THUNK* I don't think she really cried... just looked rather dazed. She seems to be ok now (well..... sometimes I wonder! ;)) haha (she's 20)

Lord's Envoy,

I can't grab my kids anymore. They're bigger than me.

:)

The Police have a wonderful tool and when used properly you can both beat down and take down the buffest troublemakers:

They are called ASP Batons and as you can see they come in a variety of sizes. Its a fun and useful tool ;)

:D AHAHAHAHA!!!!!! This was a fun thread to read through. Great stories.

I have a story to share but it didn't involve dropping a baby,..

it was chasing down a car with a 2yr old that put the car in gear while the mom was getting the baby out of the carseat in back. I heard the mom shouting "Amanda stop, Amanda no, Amanda stop" I don't know how she thought the child could stop the car but she was obviously in a panick standing by the road with the baby in her arms. I overheard the comotion & looked out my front door to see what was going on

When I saw the situation & realized the 2yr old was in the car that was already half way down the block, I shot out the door & ran down the street after the car & somehow I actually caught up with it & grab the drivers door that was hanging opened swung myself into the car & hit the breaks & returned the car back to my house & the panicked mom. I still say it had to be angels that carried me cause I'm no super runner or stunt person or anything. But Thank the Lord I caught the car b4 it crashed into the house at the end of the block
