  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any Korean/Japanese language learners out there??

This isn't really a general hobby (I don't think). But there's not a section for language, so I wasn't sure where to put this:grimacing: I've been self studying Korean and Japanese for a couple of months. Language is something I'm very interested in!

I was curious if there's any other Korean and Japanese language learners here in Christian forums. Or anyone who would like to help a girl out??!

Thanks for your time :)!!

Have you obtained a Bible in either Japanese or Korean? Some passages - such as John chapter 1 - are often quite straightforward to follow in various languages.

Attending Korean or Japanese language Bible studies can be helpful also.

Thank you! I haven't thought of that! I will definitely be looking for Korean/Japanese bible studies. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I just started studying Korean recently. I tried Japanese for a while too, and I seemed to be good at it, but I realized there was no reason for me to learn haha. I know way more Koreans and have no real purpose for Japanese except to understand the anime I haven't been watching.

I also tried to start some Hebrew and would like an interlinear Bible for that, but I am actually finding Korean easier.

Hi; the Hankul script is quite phonetic, I believe... :)

Yes, the Hebrew alphabet is very confusing. Without accents, ב might be a v or a b sound, but ו is also condidered a v, except it usually seems to make more of an “o” sound. ש might be s or sh, but ס is also an s sound. Most confusing is probably all the letters that make k or kh sounds.

I also find Eastern languages easier to pronounce for some reason and so far the grammar hasn’t thrown me off. I was never as good at pronouncing european languages.

So are you from an Asian background?

The Hebrew - like Arabic - can be written with or without vowel pointing.

YW. It's good to be able to look at Bible passages in different languages side by side.
