Are there any really good indepth Sunday School materials? Most of the ones I have found seem to have a bunch of questions that relate to the story but little in the indepth study of Scripture. Have you found any really indepth studies that are good for Sunday School?

Thanks
Dave

Theres a book that I am studying for class called "A basic guide to interpreting the bible" by Dr. Robert Stien. Its a hermeneutics book that is layman freindly and not to long. I think its a good idea to teach this to a church, it will help them grow. After all, if we as ministers think its important to interpret the bible correctly and grasp hermeneutics, why not teach the sheep to do the same?

Not to mention, though it is a required read for class, I find reading it to be rather enjoyable.

I used Virkler's book on Hermeneutics in my class and have his takes on VHS. That might be a good thing to teach at our church. I won't show the tapes to the church (boOOOooorrrriiinnnggggg), but I can pick and choose the aspects of his 25 lesson course to teach them.

Virkler is required reading? Where do you go to school?

It's a very good and easy to understand principles of exegesis. I hope the teacher goes through the examples in the book with you. They are very difficult (some are). Since Virkler was the instructor, it was obviously the textbook we used for the entire class. It and Haddon Robinson's book on biblical preaching, which goes past the process (Virkler concentrates on the process) to applying it to preaching.

Ah, I see in your profile that you are going ot Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Cool! I am going to Liberty Baptist Seminary.

I hear good things about that school.

If you want to get technical I attend Southern's Undergrad school called Boyce College, though they are on the same campus. Im thinking about continuing on at southern for an MDIV.

Very cool. I am getting a MAR that will count towards and MDiv, but I can't do that until I am able to attend on campus instead of in correspondence. I wish you all of God's blessings in your persuit of your degrees.

We've been using precept studies in our Sunday School class. Kindof neat how they tie together the OT and the NT. Right now we're going through "Living a Life of True Worship". It's taking apart the OT Tabernacle and showing how even the tabernacle itself showed us who Jesus is.Really interesting.

*shrugs* Hope that helped
