Hello everyone!

I wanted find out if there are good Christian books out? This might sound stupid but I like a challenge to read, as I read alot, and I'm beginning to open up to adult books and have started to read more adult material which is more of a challenge.
If you are around my age (or older or younger) I would really recommend the series of "Elsie Dinsmore a Life of Faith" and "Millie Keith a LIfe of Faith" by Martha Finley. They are truly inspiring to me personally and I love them and shall never tire of them. They are set back in the mid-800's and if you enjoy books which this sort of time setting definately read these. You can find them in your nearest Christian bookstore or search the web if you have to, they're worth the search!

I LOVE a book with a time setting like this, so please if anyone knows of ANY Christian based books fiction/non-fiction, any time setting please let me know. Thank You and God Bless!

I know not what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow...

" Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17

" Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the Kingdom." Luke 12:32

I have read nothing by C. S. Lewis that I would not strongly recomend.

His SciFi Trilogy; Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra and That Hideous Strength is excellent fiction, and his Narnia books are said to be superb, although I have never read them.

The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce are also fictional stories, but, unlike his SciFi which is pure fiction, these are parables, used to get across inspiration, theology, instruction, etc.

His sermons and essays, both those on specifically Christian topics and others, are also excellent and collections of these can be found.

Also, the Left Behind series is a good read. I disagree with their theology, but this does not stop me enjoying them.

G.K. Chesterton's biography of St. Francis of Asissi is very interesting and inspirational.

Issues Facing Christians Today by John Stott is excellent for thinking about how our faith should affect our views on issues that are not specifically Christian or theological, both in a general sense and on specific issues.

I have not read The Heavenly Man myself, but I know many who have and say it is incredibly moving and inspirational.

Well, that should do for suggestions from me :)

Hope you find them useful.

God bless,
YN.

I would say anything by C.S. Lewis. The Lord of the Rings books are good also. I would also recommend the Left Behind series. I really like any book by Frank Peretti, all of them are good, but I think that his best books are The Oath, This Present Darkness, and Piercing the Darkness.

CS Lewis' overt Christian allegories in his Narnia books are very interesting and wonderful, and Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (my favorite books ever!), although he vehemently denies Christian allegory or any allegory of any sort, are filled with tons of parellels to the modern Christian's struggle. Someone told me about "The Creator and the Cosmos", a book linking modern physics theory to Christian doctrine, but I don't remember the author. The Left Behind books are great to start out, but they quickly grow uninteresting and boring.

This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness by Frank E. Peretti. They are fiction books about spiritual warfare (angels vs. demons fighting over the souls of humans, etc.) Really good fictional novels, very interesting for me (because I love to read more fantasy oriented novels).

I have read a couple of GREAT christian books, I read books mostly for teens. Some of the books that I have read have changed my life, thinking, and approach towards others.

The books I've read are: Faith that Breathes (real stories, real faith), Checklist for Life (for graduates), Purpose Driven Life, Communicate (Experience Him. Share him),Where are you taking the world anyway, Now faith is... :p

There's two books by Frank E Peretti that are really good. ones called Hangman's Curse, but for the life of me i cant remember what the other ones called. its a series about this christian family that travels around and deals with all sorts of things. some of which are a little unbelievable but its still a good book. i read them a about a year ago and really liked them, and suposidly there's another one in the series coming out soon.

PS. LOTR is always a great set of books, the Hobbit too!

Thank You everyone for your posts! I've made a note of all those books and am going to look into them. They all sound great and I'm looking forward to the Christian romance. I've heard that C.S.Lewis is a great author so I'm looking forward to reading some of his books too. Thanks again and God Bless.

Blessed Child is OK. It's about a child who has grown up in isolation with a priest and is completely in tune with God. It starts of with the lives of two charity workers in Africa who find the child and then what happens when they take him back to America. It's about the great revivial and healing, both mind and body. It's a mix of action, romance and theological ideas thrown together.

Can you take some more suggestions?

How about any of Madeleine L'Engle's books - they all have Christian underpinnings.

There's a book I liked a lot called "Mrs. Mike" by an author with the last name of Freeman (I think) and it's based on a true story about a young woman from Boston who travels to western Canada around 1915, marries a Canadian Mountie and goes into the North Country. It's all about their struggles and joys. It's a wonderful book.

And I definitely 2nd the suggestions of C.S. Lewis & Tolkien's LOTR & "The Hobbit".
