... i have an unusually high advantage being a good cleric that is half celestial. I make him mad cuz i can fly over most of the traps he puts and im immune to fire, electricity, acid, cold and i have a resistance to poison. And im only at level 5
I'm a D&D'er too, but I haven't actually played with a group in a while - I'm pretty much stuck w/ computer RPG's until I find time and a group of people in Jacksonville to play with.

That being said, though, how do you manage to be half-celestial, with flying and all of those immunities? Is that a part of the AD&D 3rd edition?

As far as being a cleric of Christ is concerned, I had a buddy in college do that in a campaign. I understand the good meaning behind it, but it makes me feel uneasy. See, the typical fundamentalist objection to D&D is that where you're doing stuff like spellcasting and using magic, that is essentially witchcraft. My reasoning has always been that D&D is set in an entirely separate fantasy world, and just because my wizard can cast a fireball or do a 'Power Word Death', that doesn't have anything to do with this world. It is just something for fun. Any witchcraft or magic in this world is in opposition to God. Bringing Christ into a D&D campaign tends to blur the separation between the two worlds, and I'd feel funny about magic in the campaign at that point.

What does everybody else think about this? Am I alone in my reservations?

if your uneasy about the spellcasting in the game just reword it to "miracle working"
No: that makes it worse. What if you have someone of an evil alignment cast a spell? Then you have to bring in real demonology and witchcraft. How do you deal with all the religious problems of our world? How do you even define who gets miracles? What about other religions? Either they couldn't exist (no miracles) or are all blatantly demonic. The original game idea is less problematic

I see what your saying and i agree. I guess my post was just intended to people who play as a good alignment and are players who worship Christ (in the game). Maybe all good aligned spells should be called miracles and evil aligned spells renamed to witchcraft. Dont really know what to call neutral spells

I dont see the point in putting christ in DnD. Its a good nice idea, but if you are making a made up world, id assume it works best to just make up your own religions in the game. I'm not saying that it can't be parellel to our religions, but dont make it the excact same, to much clashing of reality and fiction.

i do it because so i wont feel bad about being pagan in the game. I have this really helpful quirk that makes me feel really quilty about doing something that would make me less christian. Dont get me wrong, i sin and all...but i just feel really bad about it and that helps me stop myself before i do it again. If the game forced people to play under fantasy pagan gods or be atheist in the game, the game would be even more of a target by conservative christians.
