Anyone here like any trance style music (psytrance, ambient, chill out, etc.)?Rock and metal and all that's OK, but there's too much negativity it seems, so my friend introduced me to a psytrance band called Infected Mushroom, and now it, along with Entheogenic, Akasha Project, and my Chillum Compilation CD's are all I ever listen to.

Oh yeah... I definitely dig ambient, psytrance, downtempo, etc. You don't really have to deal with negative stuff like with metal; there's definitely the drug element, but once you get past the corny samples about LSD or UFOs it's great stuff! ;)

Infected Mushroom... excellent group, I have a couple of theirs. I haven't heard any of the other artists you mention, but I'll have to see what I can dig up!

I would highly, highly recommend the album Are You Shpongled? by Shpongle. (Their other album is good too...) This is one of my absolute favorite albums, it's masterfully done from start to finish. Not really trancey, there's some really killer drum programming though and some great ethnic samples...

From my experience, you can't really go wrong with anything on the TIPWorld or Twisted labels-- some of their compilations are absolutely amazing. My favorites are the two Thirteen Crystal Skulls albums, Mystery of the Yeti Part 2 and Eclipse: A Journey of Permanence and Impermanence.

How about beatless ambient music, are you into that at all? If so, I'd have to echo Cygnus's post-- Steve Hillage and Tangerine Dream both have some excellent chillout music of the deep-space variety...

If you want any other suggestions for further listening give a holler; I'm off to go find Entheogenic and the Akasha Project! :)

Yeah I mainly listen to amient and chill out more than psytrance. Entheogenic's "Spontaneous Illumination" is by far the best album of any genre ever made, IMO. I haven't heard their first album, "Entheogenic", you can only find that in Europe, and even there you're lucky to find a copy. Same with any Akasha Project CD's (my friend was lucky enough to find a copy of Akasha Project's "Cosmic Ambient Garden" in a shop in Germany). You can find some samples of their songs at psyshop.com if you want to hear them.

Psychedelicist, thanks for the tip about Entheogenic. I listened to the samples for "Spontaneous Illumination" and bought the album shortly thereafter. I found a site where you can buy the s/t album: http://www.backroadsmusic.com lists it as an import available for $19.98.
The mix of electronic and acoustic elements and the overall style remind me a lot of Shpongle; I'm going to stand by my recommendation, you'll probably dig either of their albums.
Thanks again!
