  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Avast is far superior to AVG. It has a better detection rate.
Recent versions of Ad-Aware are junk. The best free antispyware as of now is SUPERantispyware, followed by Malwarebytes Anti-malware.

I should also point out that Firefox will not protect you. While firefox is not a bad web browser, if you really care about protecting your computer, you would use Opera. Opera is and always has been the most secure web browser on the Windows platform.

I'd bet a lot ot "tech guys" actually get a new computer every 3 years :D

(3 years is OLD for a computer)

I think every 3 years is about average in my house for a new machine. This laptop should last through to graduation fall 2010.

I would bet a lot of tech guys build a new machine every 6-12 months.

i managed to unroot it with "avast!". it's pretty good for that sort of thing. spybot, nod32, .... there are a few others out there but those are the main ones i use. general spam, spybots, and tricky trojans removing programs. the internet is nice and all but it's full of traps.

kinda hard to install windows 8 when that doesn't exist yet. heh

Well.... That's not entirely accurate ;)

They are working on it already, supposed to support 128Bit architecture

true.. but it'd be confusing to give Windows7 the name "Windows 8" while still retaining the original product name

Well.... That's not entirely accurate ;)

I never thought they were bad to begin with. I've been using AVG for years and have yet to find anything better.

In my experience, AVG Free leaves a lot to be desired. The best ones I've used are NOD32, Kaspersky, and Bit Defender. For free solutions, I prefer Avast. Rising Antivirus was also a good one, but I believe they discontinued their free edition.
