In a general sense, yes.

And, I had to re-engineer,

My snowthrower,
My hydraulic wood splitter, (even the splitting ax).
Had to design my own bow sight,
My own tree stand, and ladder,
Design my own deer target.

I even had to change the screws that came with some cabinet hardware so it would work properly.

Over the years I have had to tweak dozens of 'engineered' products so they work properly.

I had to alter the manufacturer's 'safety' feature on this wood splitter in order to make it safe to operate. I converted it from a two-handed starting switch, which left me vulnerable to flyaway wood, to a single handed switch which leaves my other hand free to restrain the wood if it misbehaves. How's that for irony.

I know I shouldn't turn this into an engineering bashing thread.
I worked for many years as one of only three scientists in an engineering design division for a major automotive company.
I acquired the nickname "Dexter".
I found out Dexter was some TV character who was scientist by day and serial killer at night.
Apparently I had an uncanny resemblance to this character but more likely it was the usual engineering science rivalry at work.

Anyway this is beside the point.
Some of these engineers had some very strange ideas about science such as geocentricism.
It inspires links such as engineering and woo.

Well if it makes you feel better pure mathematicians have bashed applied mathematicians for at least a century.
They never forgave us for inventing game theory which is more in the field of pure maths.
As a result they can't take the credit for preventing World War III during the cold war era.

Gifted is an I.Q. score range, just below genius.

My gifts of knowledge don't require that level however as they're pretty mundane. A doctor only needs an I.Q. of about 120. Many people succeed with a much lower score as well.
