Case in point, a recent picture of a statue of Mary (I think) taken from a very biased source which claims it was in the newspaper. Number one, there's no proof it was in the newspaper, 2, there's no proof they were even Catholic, 3, the picture appeared doctored. That was used to augment your beliefs that we are Pagan and practice witchcraft of which, even if the picture was not doctored, the picture proved nothing.
Theresa,
I dealt with this very article recently over at Steve Haws "Examining Protestantism" board (I have since stopped posting over there). The picture itself is real, the spin put on it though is a blatant, bald-faced lie.
Here is what I had to say:
Follow this link to RR to reach Budge's post entitled "Wicca Infiltrates Catholic Church":
http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?threadid=80010
Budge links to the following:
http://www.traditio.com/comment/com0303.htm
Of course, Traditio, a schismatic, sedevacantist site, so you can be sure their coverage is unbiased and accurate.
Interestingly enough, neither Budge nor Traditio link to the original article, found in "The Catholic Voice" published bi-weekly from the Diocese of Oakland. To see the article, click here (for the time being):
http://www.oakdiocese.org/voice/Local.pdf (Adobe Acrobat required).
Now, first off Budge's opening comment is a hoot:
They are definitely participating in a pagan ceremony. I was in Wicca, remember? UU churchs do many of these type of ceremonies.
Definitely eh? Oddly enough, the caption to the picture says the following:
Mercy Sisters and their Burlinghome neighbors pray for peace as part of a worldwide vigil, March 16th. About 100 people processed from the Sisters' chapel to an outdoor labyrinth at Mercy Center. Similar vigils took place throughout the East Bay.
Odd but no one mentions a Wiccan ritual in the article. Oh wait, this is part of a subversive, subconscious attack on unsuspecting, yet willing Catholics. I get it.
Budge then goes on to quote Traditio which says in the opening paragraph:
Catholics assembled as a coven of witches, gathered around the omphalos, or navel of the world, in a configuration of stones much like that the pagan Druids of ancient Britain built for Stonehenge. This same witches' omphalos has started to appear in Novus Ordo churches on the west coast, and perhaps elsewhere around the country. The stones number 13, which is the number of a full witch's coven.
Huh? No, there was no coven of witches assembled around an "omphalos". It was 100+ Catholic men, women and nuns praying for world peace. A truly horrible spectacle. Second, exactly what stones is this guy counting? I counted approximately 30 stones forming a circle, 12 white paper bags with candles inside of them, and one awful looking stone statue of Mary in the middle. Either this guy cannot count or he's can't tell a stone from a paper bag, in either case this guy isn't very bright. Of course, Budge buys it hook, line and stinker.
And not surprisingly enough, the rest of them over at RR did too. Without a single one going to the original source of the picture.
Is anyone surprised?
