  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It never fails to amaze me that people who have questions about Catholicism go to Internet websites rather than to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. :(

Person 1: "I have to have my appendix out....the pain is killing me, and it may burst any minute."

Person 2: "Wow! You'd better go to an abdominal surgeon right away!"

Person 1: "Abdominal surgeon? No way! I don't trust them....they're too much a part of the 'institution', you know."

Person 2: "So what are you going to do?"

Person 1: "I'll look around on the Internet and see if I can find somebody writing an article about abdominal surgeons. Then I'll go to them. They're bound to be able to help me out."

Person 2: "Ohhhh-kay.......well, good luck to you, then."

Yesterday at 11:43 PM Theresa said this in Post #18

Case in point, a recent picture of a statue of Mary (I think) taken from a very biased source which claims it was in the newspaper. Number one, there's no proof it was in the newspaper, 2, there's no proof they were even Catholic, 3, the picture appeared doctored. That was used to augment your beliefs that we are Pagan and practice witchcraft of which, even if the picture was not doctored, the picture proved nothing.

Theresa,

I dealt with this very article recently over at Steve Haws "Examining Protestantism" board (I have since stopped posting over there). The picture itself is real, the spin put on it though is a blatant, bald-faced lie.

Here is what I had to say:

Follow this link to RR to reach Budge's post entitled "Wicca Infiltrates Catholic Church": http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?threadid=80010

Budge links to the following: http://www.traditio.com/comment/com0303.htm

Of course, Traditio, a schismatic, sedevacantist site, so you can be sure their coverage is unbiased and accurate.

Interestingly enough, neither Budge nor Traditio link to the original article, found in "The Catholic Voice" published bi-weekly from the Diocese of Oakland. To see the article, click here (for the time being): http://www.oakdiocese.org/voice/Local.pdf (Adobe Acrobat required).

Now, first off Budge's opening comment is a hoot:
They are definitely participating in a pagan ceremony. I was in Wicca, remember? UU churchs do many of these type of ceremonies.

Definitely eh? Oddly enough, the caption to the picture says the following:
Mercy Sisters and their Burlinghome neighbors pray for peace as part of a worldwide vigil, March 16th. About 100 people processed from the Sisters' chapel to an outdoor labyrinth at Mercy Center. Similar vigils took place throughout the East Bay.

Odd but no one mentions a Wiccan ritual in the article. Oh wait, this is part of a subversive, subconscious attack on unsuspecting, yet willing Catholics. I get it.

Budge then goes on to quote Traditio which says in the opening paragraph:
Catholics assembled as a coven of witches, gathered around the omphalos, or navel of the world, in a configuration of stones much like that the pagan Druids of ancient Britain built for Stonehenge. This same witches' omphalos has started to appear in Novus Ordo churches on the west coast, and perhaps elsewhere around the country. The stones number 13, which is the number of a full witch's coven.

Huh? No, there was no coven of witches assembled around an "omphalos". It was 100+ Catholic men, women and nuns praying for world peace. A truly horrible spectacle. Second, exactly what stones is this guy counting? I counted approximately 30 stones forming a circle, 12 white paper bags with candles inside of them, and one awful looking stone statue of Mary in the middle. Either this guy cannot count or he's can't tell a stone from a paper bag, in either case this guy isn't very bright. Of course, Budge buys it hook, line and stinker.

And not surprisingly enough, the rest of them over at RR did too. Without a single one going to the original source of the picture.

Is anyone surprised?

LOL. This reminds me for all the world of a debate I had with a guy over on The Board That Shall Not Be Mentioned, about four years ago, when he linked to a site called "XL Ministries" (snappy title, eh?), where they had a grainy photograph of St. Peter's Square taken at a sloping angle, with the explanation that the eight sections of the "circle" in the courtyard of the Square represent the Noble Eightfold Path of the Buddhists (never mind that the courtyard is actually an oval, not a circle), and that the obelisk in the center was a Wiccan symbol for the male penetration of the female.

After I got finished screaming with laughter and wiping the tears out of my eyes, I picked myself up off the floor and proceeded to refute every single things he'd posted, not that it did anything to convince him.

As a poster on RR I can only say this:

Posters do not get banned for being Catholic or for defending Catholicism. However, many of the discussions do seem to end up in personal insults (on both sides) and that will get you banned. But it does seem to me that they give a ton more leeway to the anti-Catholics.

And Budge, while you may believe what you post, very little of what you post is accurate or the truth. You spin a good tale and you're preaching to the choir. It's really not worth the time for any Catholic to try and show the truth because, especially in the Apologetics forum, because the posters don't want to listen. They prefer to stay in the dark about these things. It truly is a waste of time.

This is how I see any conversation between you and I that concerns the Catholic Church:

Budge: " I believe that the sky is purple."

Michelle: "No, Budge, the sky isn't purple, it's blue."

Budge: "No, it's purple. I sincerely believe that."

Michelle: "No, it's blue. If you would take off your 'Rome is evil' colored glasses and tilt your head back one more time, you'd see that the sky really is blue."

Budge: "Well, I disagree with you the sky is still purple and I honestly believe that."

Michelle: "Okay Budge."

:lol Michelle!

Yes some of those apologetics arguments do get like that. Course Id be like "take those Catholic glasses off" and look around on my side instead of saying "Rome is evil"

This is, for the very most part, true.  I was banned for slinging insults around, (and I was guilty)--but I have seen it done time and time again by others and the only thing that gets said is  "Yoo-hoo Leeeteel Cheeeldren"

Hey Wols youre a Vatican Operative now..

Uh oh! Guess Im in big trouble:p

never fails to amaze me that people who have questions about Catholicism go to Internet websites rather than to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Ive read the 1994 edition. I also have a search site of the Cathechism I use for RR posts.

Its a thick book--600-? pages. Its in paperback--white with picture on front.
[
I dealt with this very article recently over at Steve Haws "Examining Protestantism" board (I have since stopped posting over there). The picture itself is real, the spin put on it though is a blatant, bald-faced lie.

I was NOT lying. They are praying or whatever around an actual omphalo. Those are used in Wicca. The picture does NOT lie.

Of course, Traditio, a schismatic, sedevacantist site, so you can be sure their coverage is unbiased and accurate.

I put the pdf link up later. I cant get pdf downloads but put it up on RR for people to see.

They are definitely participating in a pagan ceremony. I was in Wicca, remember? UU churchs do many of these type of ceremonies.

The use of an omphalo is participation in paganism. There is no Christian link to ompalos Ive ever seen before.

Mercy Sisters and their Burlinghome neighbors pray for peace as part of a worldwide vigil, March 16th. About 100 people processed from the Sisters' chapel to an outdoor labyrinth at Mercy Center. Similar vigils took place throughout the East Bay.

Its interesting how the peace movements are always linked to liberalpolitics and paganism and interfaithism.

Odd but no one mentions a Wiccan ritual in the article. Oh wait, this is part of a subversive, subconscious attack on unsuspecting, yet willing Catholics. I get it.

The use of an omphalo is the use of a Wiccan ritual tool.

Count the candles its 13. And yes an omphalo is a navel of the world and Stonehenge is considered one. Do you think the use of ompahlos is normal for a Catholic church even? Would you like to see one of these in the middle of your church or out front in the church yard?

I wonder why world peace is such the excuse to participate in pagan practices. Well the Bible did say the AC (along with the falling away) would come in on the platform of peace.
Just because they were praying for peace, doesnt excuse the use of a pagan omphalo.

It may not be accurate or true to you. But it is to me. We are trying to show the truth to Catholics as well. I am not trying to spin a tale as you call it.

Yes, they are all very well mannered.  I bet they have to walk away from their computer and take several deep breaths before they make their next post. ;)--I most certainly do not posses enough self restraint not to reply in anger.   I admire them.  I sincerely pray that they are reaching the lurkers. :)
