  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello all,

A Protestant(Baptist) friend of mine told me:

The Catholic teaches that you need a priest to go to heaven.
Thats no where in the Bible!

And:

The Catholic church has influence from King Nimrod of Babylon.

HELP!

In Christ,

Hector

You should challenge his claims by asking for the source of his claims ;)

i.e. where does the Catechism teach that you NEED a priest to go to heaven?

i.e. where does the Catholic church teach that it has influence from King Nimrod?

=)

HectorMedina:

The "Nimrod" stuff is some foaming-at-the-mouth anti-catholic rubbish invented by someone called Hislop a hundred years ago, in a long-exploded book called "The two Babylons". It still gets quoted by anti-catholics of the most uninformed sort.

As for R R, it is a hotbed of the worst sort of anti-catholic bigotry. Most Catholics get banned there if they are too ready to defend their faith. A lot of the people there know the points they make about Catholicism are false - they have been put right enough times, and given the relevant facts and references. However many of the regulars don't want to listen - in my opinion they only want to propagandise and mislead.

Yes. There's a group there who try to mock, hector and bully weaker Catholics out of their faith. Correcting outright untruths and mis-statements on that board may be useful, for the sake of the "lurkers" who read for information, but a lot of the time Catholics participating there just encourages the catholic-haters to worse excesses. It would be best for seekers of truth to get their information from a better source.

The Catholic church has influence from King Nimrod of Babylon.
And proof of that claim would be found in the Bible exactly.......where?

Take my advice and go pick up a copy of Karl Keating's book Catholicism and Fundamentalism. It is absolutely indispensible for conversations like this.

Or just send him here. :) We'll help him. ;)

Some of you are always too hard on RR! I know I believe everything I post. Just because people disagree with you, why say they are willfully putting up false things?

I do wish they didnt ban the Catholics so much but one can get banned on opposite boards just as much---NCC on Catholic board.

I havent read Hislops book so havent quoted from it directly yet.

More anti-Catholic material:

From www.raptureready.com:

Is the Pope the Antichrist?

I don't think the Pope can be the Antichrist, because the Antichrist will likely be accepted by the Jews as their Messiah. In order to biblically qualify, the Messiah must be of Jewish origin. Because the Pope heads an organization of one billion followers, it is very logical to conclude that the Pontiff will someday fulfill a major the role in the Antichrist’s false church.

"I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive" (John 5:43)

The Pope is a Priest(though a very high ranking one),how is he the anti-christ???

Budge,

Sorry for getting on your heels but some of the things you post makes one definately wonder your sincerity.  Case in point, a recent picture of a statue of Mary (I think) taken from a very biased source which claims it was in the newspaper.  Number one, there's no proof it was in the newspaper, 2, there's no proof they were even Catholic, 3, the picture appeared doctored.  That was used to augment your beliefs that we are Pagan and practice witchcraft of which, even if the picture was not doctored, the picture proved nothing.

So, I'm going to have to challenge your sincerity and your surface nice-nice.

"But that is not all.  There are literally hundreds of errors of fact in this book.  In any ten consecutive pages one can find ten palpable blunders. These are real mistakes, not innocent things such as typographical errors.  There are major errors, and there are minor ones, and they lead one to ask at what point does sloppiness become more than mere negligence?  When does it show acutal bad faith,.?........"

Thanks Budge, same to you.

This is how I see any conversation between you and I that concerns the Catholic Church:

Budge:  " I believe that the sky is purple."

Michelle:  "No, Budge, the sky isn't purple, it's blue."

Budge:  "No, it's purple.  I sincerely believe that."

Michelle: "No, it's blue.  If you would take off your 'Rome is evil' colored glasses and tilt your head back one more time, you'd see that the sky really is blue."

Budge:  "Well, I disagree with you the sky is still purple and I honestly believe that."

Michelle:  "Okay Budge."
