Music...
I briefly mentioned this in the thread about what we're listening to here.
Nevermore, a thrash metal band out of Seattle, is having a new album out. Its out today in Europe.
They are one of my favorite bands. Great vocals. The guy is a trained opera singer, and the guitars I just love and the music is great. Lyrics, they are a great band. Social and philosophical, LOVE IT. You might as well say somewhere between Sanctuary and Queensryche these guys sound like. Tie for number 1 for my favorite bands.
Century Media is their label. They are one of the big heavy metal record labels. They produce all types of metal acts from all over the world. So it is a global record company.
The problem I have is, an American band I have rely on Myspace, and teasers while Europeans get the album first. These guys are my favorite American heavy metal band, because of their progressive edge, that's why they are tied with my favorite band, which is Opeth which they are from Sweden.
Now looking at it from a marketing aspect, it makes sense why Century Media did this. America, the new music here I cannot stand for the most part(of course there are always exceptions to every rule...with the exception of rap and hip hop). Country that sounds like pop, rap and hip hop that has no meaning to me, and I can't find musical talent in beats with rhymes for urban poets are not musicians more times than not, the rock is all about indie as some last glimmer of hope for people to be independent, or rock music that is about losing some girl the guy shouldn't have been with in the first place, folk music that is just about the same, but flipped to the female side, heavy metal that is not about talent, that is not about musical structure, but is about be as 'heavy' as one can be not realizing they sound like a chaotic mess of nothingness, and singing that is worth selling some albums but that isn't worth being a strong force in the style they play.
I hope this isn't the start of a trend. Its frustrating. Yes I'm a music snob or extremely biased(both). Yes I want this album really bad. The teaser is just that, a teaser and it does a great job at being that, a tease. Thankfully, youtube is awesome. Because now I have Emptiness Unobstructed to jam out too.
I understand it with European metal bands. Their albums SHOULD be released in Europe first. That's where they are from. Its where they got big at. Its who deserves it first. It should be the same.
So I'm whining, complaining. I've got my metaphorical wine and cheese next to me and I'm indulging.
