  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was formula fed, but it was that or starve. Mom almost died as some of the placenta was left behind when I was born... however, my health issues are entirely genetic and nothing would have slowed them or stopped them - not even extended nursing. :sigh:

We just have a ton of health issues in our family, and it won't pay for us to do it on certain ones, and the lack of overall research by doctors outside of the big $$ pharmaceuticals, really just makes me wonder what is really going on and if it is worth it or not. I just know I have to do what I can that's right for our little ones as every parent does.

The thing is though, docs don't even know the science of it and why it works for some, why it harms others, and why some it does next to nothing for. . . know what I mean?

The thing too is everything I read in articles say BF babies are more healthier, etc.... I mean it's like formula fed babies are gonna be sick a lot. That's why it makes me feel bad. And it's not like I didn't try I guess all these articles & people freaking when I say I didn't & don't BF is weighing on me. Guess I need to stop reading & listening & go with trusting the good Lord.

Yes, that's what you should do. Trust me....my boys are just fine and they were FF. My youngest never had an ear infection, or a cold, or really any illness until well after his first birthday (and no we didn't live in a bubble) he was just fine. My oldest had a few ear infections after we moved from NC to PA, but other than that no illness until he was almost 2.

See that's another thing it's like formula fed babies are at risk for everything. Makes me kinda upset and like I'm a bad mom.

You just need to find your peace, like you said. It appears the others have PMed you on this issue so I won't go on about it, lol. I think it is important to note that what HS was trying to say (or it appears to me) was that whether there are live immunities being given to the baby or not should be a factor. As for me I consider it the opposite factor. How I would love to still be nursing when the shots are given! I wouldn't wait until I was done because the baby is getting mother's immunity, I would want the shots given while they still had the immunities to fight the shots (if that makes sense).

For me, the main vaccine I want a not breastfeeding baby to have before the winter is pertussis (whooping cough). Pertussis is dangerous for babies, but not for big people, so people go to their public places of work and spread it all around.

Not exactly related, but I heard on the morning news the other day that formula fed babies receive the right amount of vitamin D and that most breastfed babies are deficient. Just thought you might like to hear of a way in which formula is better ;). Vitamin D is important for calcium absorption.

Unfortunately, that can't be true. Breastmilk has Exactly what a baby needs... if a baby was supposed to have more Vit.D (or iron for that matter), breastmilk would have it, but it doesn't, so the baby doesn't need it. Breastmilk probably has a _different form_ of Vit.D (like it does iron) which is more highly absorbed by the baby's gut than added Vit.D (or iron).

What MY problem is right now would seriously derail this thread ;) but I'm feeling like I don't know how to parent Abel because he can't nurse. I nursed the last 6 babies, and it was so much easier... I just don't know what I'm doing this time. Which sucks.

Anyway, back to the OP and the discussion... I don't think you can compare vaccinations and formula feeding at all. Vaccinations are playing Russian Roulette with a child's health & future, while formula is a form of nutrition (not as good a form as breastmilk, but still ok).
