  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yeah, I'm back. :)
I'm interested in learning more about Catholicism and was wondering if there are any particular books, websites, etc. that you would recommend? I have only some very limited knowledge right now.
Let's see. Aside from this site, I highly recommend:

Catholic Online - a good forum with knowledgeable members.

Catholic Answers - a good site for quick and easy reference.

Dave Armstrong, Catholic Apologist - apologetic work

New Advent - The Catholic site. Links you to the Catholic Encyclopedia as well as Early Church Father writings.

EWTN - website of famous Catholic TV channel. Has various information.

Mark Shea, Catholic Apologist- apologetic work

James Akin- apologetic work

First of all, God bless you!

My first suggestion would be a book by Dr. Scott Hahn called "Rome Sweet Home". I returned home to the Church about 3 years ago and this was the first book I read in relation to coming into the church. In my opinion (however humble and insignificant) I STRONGLY urge you to read this book!
In fact, I'd be glad to purchase a copy for you and have it shipped to your local Parish to pick up... Just let me know. mailto:jmccoy02@swbell.net

I second this book . . :)

The last book I read before making my decision to come into the Catholic Church was

Pope Fiction by Patrick Madrid . . it covers 30 myths about the Pope and the Papacy . .

By the way Patrick Madrid is going to be here in a little over 3 weeks . . Portland Oregon . . And someone is actually flying in from Chicago to hear him!! wow!

So, if anyone else wants to fly in, drive in, or whatever :D just let me know - I can arrange tickets for you !! :)

The Seminar is "Why be Catholic when you an be anything at all . . " :D

Peace in Him!

i dont know what your name is , all i see is numbers,,lol,,,so ill call you princess,,,

i think if you really want to get the best experience of catholicism you should go to the new advent link shown in artnalex's reply....and once there search for the early church father writings.

in the ECFs as they are known, you will find some of the most spiritual and holy writings of the early church which realte to just about every issue the church has had to deal with.

Clement of Rome is one of the earlier writers and gives exceptional info on early first centrury church.

Ignatius is one of the greatest of all for spitiua;ity.

and I personally believe that Popes Gregory and Leo are some of the greatest for defending the authorty of Rome..

A writing called the TOME of LEO was read to an ecumenical council of Bishops which sat around 450 AD and is considered crucial reading for any catholic.
