I personally do not hear a voice. I do get feelings. I see connections in my daily life that seem to tell me the answer to my prayers.

I will frequently start hearing the same bit of scripture from several different, unrealted sources. I tear off the last day of my scripture and find today's is the same piece of scripture that I read in my morning study...or heard on the radio on the way to work or in the midweek service. God is trying to tell me something. In a sense, it is his Word, so he IS speaking to me.

When I am being tempted by sin, that little voice inside me, I guess one could say the conscience, telling me to avoid it, I have always seen that as God talking to me.

Hey Smell!
It is different for different people. In my own experiences, hearing an audible voice is very rare and usually only done when God can't get your attention any other way! (Happened to my mother once when she was asleep at the wheel of the car and nearly killed, God used an audible shout to awaken her but everyone was asleep in the car.) Balaam's donkey for example..... As I have matured in my prayer life I hear him in my heart and truly now, I know His voice.
Personally, I praise and worship first, then spend time sitting, talking with Him. Sometimes He says things and sometimes He shows me images or visions (visions are very Biblical do a search regarding them in your concordance or on the Blue Letter Bible online.)
When it is Jesus, He confirms His Word to you. Just as Kelly said, He will send confirmation through other people, His Scripture, various 'different' means. He WILL confirm His Word to you, though. It will amaze you how it happens sometimes!
Sometimes when we are seeking guidance, the right path will be the only path that you will have 'peace in your spirit' about. All the other paths will continue to worry and nag at you. Select the path that you have peace about and that will be the one HE has selected for you.
I hope this helps a little. Keep in mind I'm only sharing my personal experiences to try to help you understand this process.

The Lord can speak to you various ways. I've had the lord speak to me through my thoughts, to my spirit, or the Word. Even other people can be used by the Lord to tell you things. But, be sure to check what ever you hear with the Word. The Lord can also speak to you audiably, but that hasn't happened to me yet.

You will be affrimed through the Word of God, in that you will see it's the will of God and it will not go against scripture...

i thin ka quick answer would be the Bible. One way God will reconfirm His words to us is through His word. Another is prayer; Pray about this, pleading for God to remove any feelings you have for this guy if it is not His (God's) will; You'll really need to step out on faith with this one...

Through the blessings of others. Talk ot other, older and wiser, Christians you know and get their opinion on the matter. Have them pray for you and such....

Those are really the main ways. But don't trust your emotions, because they will decieve you; You'll feel something that's not true at one time and it may be damaging. Stand upon the promises of God, and you'll leave nothing to chance

got 3 voices in your head , all seem to be you .... one asks you to do what is good , uncomfortable , impossible , and incovenient -- ususlly God ; one asks you to do what is inconsistant with God ... devil or our flesh ... test the word you hear v's the word of God ... 1 John 4.1

a rhema word ... see what has been there forever , but all of a sudden makes sense ..... doing some thing wrong , and every passage you read is about adultery , evil speaking , bad thoughts , temper , pride ... conviction of the Holy Ghost of an area in your life to deal with

Through the blessings of others. Talk ot other, older and wiser, Christians you know and get their opinion on the matter. Have them pray for you and such....
God uses yielded vessels , you and me to minister to hurting saints ...
we are his arms , legs , eyes , ears , and heart , his body ... 1 corinthians 12

Those are really the main ways. But don't trust your emotions, because they will decieve you; You'll feel something that's not true at one time and it may be damaging.
a burden for , a sudden desire to bless , forgive , pray for some one ... a name or face pops into your mind ... some one who haven't seen or heard from in years ... pray , interceed ....

Stand upon the promises of God, and you'll leave nothing to chance
your spiritual armor ( ephesians 6.10-17 ) is the word you have stood on and had victory with .... study the back of the bible , find the scriptures that concern your weak areas and commit them to memory ... they will defend you when the time comes , by speaking them in faith ..:priest:

God is limitless to the ways He can speak, i have had vissions from Him for other people when i have been praying for them.

I have also had REALLY strong feelings when praying for people (to the point that i would cry in compassion for the person without knowing anything about them or their situation) this is called 'Word of Knowledge' (a gift of the Holy Spirit) where the Holy Spirit gives you an insite into a situation. In my cases The Holy Spirit has shown me what i needed you need to pray for, for that person eg depression/loneliness...etc

I have heard from God through other people, things that i had prayed about would then come straight up in a conversation and it would bring the answer.

Also when i feel a great peace from God, eg. if i am trying to make a decision i get a real peace about one of the choices and that feels right and i know God has just opened my eyes and shown me the way that He wants me to go.

God has also given me a direct verse when i was praying and i ased Him something and i was badly needing an answer then and there and a verse poped in my head (i had no idea what it was going to say, i hadnt read it before) and it was EXACTLY the answer to the question.

Alot of the time when i go to church or read the Bible it is EXACTLY what is going on with me at that time and is just what i needed to hear from God.

My fiancee has litrally been knocked to the floor of his shower by Gods presents and God spoke into his mind (he could hear it in his mind, like when you think kinda), and it was stuff that he didnt want to hear (he was getting pulled up about somethings in his life style that were not pleasing to God and God told him to fix them).

I have been talking to other Christians about their probs and then God basically drops words in my mouth like more than word ...full speaches, like there is NO way i could think up the things that i have said, it was God literally using my mouth and me to speak out loud to that person. Along with that i just feel the presence of God on me and His Holy Spirit (i even shake (its not a bad shake its a good kind :O)) And then it stops just like that and i have nothing else to say even if i wanted to its like God had said what He wanted to and then that was it, i stop shaking and back to normal.

Also things can get confirmed by lots of different sources (Bible, people, church message, prayer etc etc) and this can all hapen in the space a a few days...you get the same verse come up a few times then some one else brings it up in a convo to you etc etc.

So as you can see there are SOOOOO many different ways that God speakes to us, dont worry if you dont feel like He is speaking to you just yet, for some people it takes longer than others (Baptism in the Holy Spirit can Help with hearing Him clearly, if you have any Q's about that feel free to ask/email me/go to the Charismatic forum or look to God for that one too :)). All you need to do is seek God with all you are and He will guide you and speak to you in a way that you will hear Him and understand Him. Trust Him and get into His word and keep talking to Him because He hears every word that you speak to Him and He loves to spend time with you.

I am in no way trying to 'show off' the ways that God has spoken to me but just wanted to show you some of the many ways that He can, and thought it would be good to hear personal experiences.

You can also do word searches on http://www.biblegateway.com/ so you can look up things on that (i find it handy!)

God bless you

We are instructed to test the spirits to see if they are from God . .

This is true of visions and when we "hear" someone speaking to us in prayer, whether it is an impression, words in our minds, a force that speaks inside of us to our heart, or an audible voice from without . .

But we are also to trus that when we ask God for something good, He is not going to give us something evil . .

Just because something "feels" right or good does not make it from God . .

What kind of vision did you have? Was it a mental vision . .images that come to your mind? Or were you transported out of all awareness of your actual physical surroundings? Or was it as though you were watching a TV screen in front of you?

Peace in Him!
