  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My church is going to do the purpose driven life (TPDL), in February/March time, it seems to be an all encompassing teaching, every one will need to have a copy of TPDL as all teaching home groups etc will be centred around the teachings in this book, my concern is while I recognise that there is some good instruction/life lessons etc in the book, I have a deep concern where this type of teaching (seeker sensitive) is going.
It seems that if my wife and I do not take part we will be sidelined we don’t want to cause any difficulties or be awkward but we are concerned, has anyone out there been through this teaching? Could you tell us what you think, good or bad
Thank you

It has been quite a while since reading it, but I recall that the book was merely a basic setting forth of the Christian life. I see no cause for concern and perhaps an opportunity to bring in the unchurched and allow them a glimpse of what Christianity is all about.

of what I remember of it, it is seeker sensitive. Basically, it's kind of like...make your church attractive to the world. You will find some good principles, but it's not entirely biblical. I disagreee with it, but that should not be a reason to divide amongst the brethren. I would recommend www.wayofthemaster.com . The church need not conform to the world, the world needs to repent and put their faith in Christ, then they'd come to the savior for the right motives and not just be involved to have their needs met.
