Another One...

I know this lady that I wish I didn't. She's obnoxious, rude, aggressive, a vextation to the spirit but; she says she's a Christian. So she bails me up yesterday, interrupting the conversation I was having with my daughter, & starts on at me about how I have to read something or other some Church of God (don't know this one) prophet had written on the book of Revelation. Now I'm a John MacArthur fan & like his take on this book, which is strong meat even for mature believers, & some of what she was sprooking on about sounds like utter nonsense to me. I don't believe the Catholic Church is
the 'harlot of Babylon' for starters.

Anyway, she wants me to read this thing then talk to her about it. She is the sort of person to hunt me down to do just that. I would like prayer that
she will have a 'teachable heart' & will actually listen instead of just talking over the top of me constantly when this conversation eventually takes place. She is a lapsed Catholic who doesn't attend any church, a pseudo intellectual who is not 1/2 so clever as she thinks she is & is generally very aggressive towards everyone, but especially Christians. I really wish I wasn't her target but the backhanded compliment is she actually
respects me so if I can just get her to listen up she might grow in the Lord. Anyway...Thanks in advance.

Why people want to insist things like this i have no idea

Mystery Babylon is called 'that great city'. A city was a nation to itself many times. Cases in point are Babylon and Rome. The Catholic church is not a nation. Now can she buy the world through her abundance, the Cathoilic church is losing money AND influence imho.

It would be IMPOSSIBLE to burn the entire Catholic church.

It is also the KINGS of the earth who are seduced by her, not the religions of the earth, again denoting a political empire.

The MERCHANTS of the earth decry her loss because she is also an economic powerhouse, such as the USA, the Catholic church doesnt effect the world economy.

The sea captains will bewail her. Why would sea captains bewail the Catholic church? They WOULD bewail the destruciton of the usa.


There are so many reasons this doesnt fit, to me its sad that some are so prejudiced.

Read Proverbs until you can see this woman there and pity her a bit. At least she's searching, but as for being a mature Christian, I think you're spot on about the blame she's putting on the RCC.

The RCC is far from perfect (imagine a Lutheran saying that!), but some of my favorite (and theologically agreeable) folks are active and former Roman Catholics. It truly bothers me when other Christians make such lazy, blanket accusations.

1 Corinthians 12 also reminds us that we have been given different gifts for the common good. This is tough, I know, and I must remind myself OFTEN!

BTW, I have two (2) MacArthur study Bibles and aside from his views on Revelation and the Lord's Supper, his notes are the most helpful I've found.

You are right, of course. I figure we will know when it starts happening. Who would have guessed Israel would rise phoenix like from the ashes to become a nation again? Besides, as I managed to squeeze into the conversation, the harlot of Babyon was origonaly Isthar so I find the resurgance of Wiccan Paganism in modern society particularly interesting.

BTW, I have two (2) MacArthur study Bibles and aside from his views on Revelation and the Lord's Supper, his notes are the most helpful I've found.

My older girl has one but I generally prefer to work with one of his many books.

Some food for thought. She probably keeps coming back to you because you have shown her Christian love and you are saying things that she can't easily refute in her mind. You are right. She is not clever so she uses aggressiveness to cover up for what she is lacking. I pray that you find peace and the she realizes the love that you are showing her.
