What is Blitzkrieg exactly?

Blitzkrieg, the tactic of "lightning warfare(which is what blitzkrieg translates into)" in which the germans would open an invasion by hammering the target with bombs, fire in with the artillery, and then mop up the rest with soldiers and tanks at close range. It was introduced in WW2.

It was this morning, and the fact that I am alive and typing to you know is proof that it went well. Got lost once, and had to ask for directions, then missed a turn on the way back, then took a wrong turn while trying ot recover from my missed turn, and then had to sit through a one car train for 8 minutes when I was 2 minutes away from home.
