The problem with your interpretation stems from your misunderstanding of raqia. At the time of the writing of Genesis the Hebrews of the time believed that it was solid with water on top. That understanding answered why it rained. However, the word raqia actually means expanse not something hard. Look at the use of the same word in Daniel 12:3 in the NASB translation. The KJV, while having beautiful writing, is no longer correct and does not include advances in archaeological discoveries and hermeneutic advances. You will be hard press to find many biblical scholars now that would translate raqia as firmament.

Artemis 1 did in 2022. And there is no water over the expanse. The water is in the clouds which causes the rain.

This is not the first time you have said something like this, nor the first time I have asked you to explain.

So, WHAT will "come tumbling down" one day?
What things that are now hidden from globe-earthers will one day be revealed?
How will we one day be brought to face "the truth"?

What difference would it make to any of us if someone said, "the moon landings were faked, no one walked on the moon and you have believed a lie"?
My argument is; it would make no difference whatsoever.
No difference to our lives, faith, salvation, wealth, jobs/careers/home life.

I believe God created the heavens and the earth.
I do not believe that a) Genesis 1 is literal or b) that it is a dictated account, by God, of his creation or c) that it tells us everything there is to know about creation and the universe.

Most people agree that Moses wrote at least most of the first 5 books of the Bible.
1. Who was he writing to? Hebrews/Israelites.
2. When was he writing? I don't know exactly but it wasn't in the 21st century.
3. What did he want them to know/why was he writing? i) To tell them that there was ONE God - and not many, as other countries believed. ii) To tell them that God ruled/had authority over everything. Unlike other countries who believed there was one god for the sea, another for the sky, and others for food, harvest, animals etc etc.

Given that Moses, a man, was writing in his time, for a certain group of people and so that they would know certain things, isn't it likely that he would write in a way that they would be able to understand?
So he is not writing a literal account dictated by God, with scientific details.

In your example: presumably the "water above the firmament" accounts for our rain?
What happens? Does God occasionally tear holes in the firmament to let it through?
Does he sometimes make the holes too big, so that some places get lots of rain and others get none?
How does he replenish the water above the firmament after it has rained?
With Noah's flood, and all the gallons of rain we've had since, either there must have been several Atlantic oceans worth of water up there in the first place, or it must be running nearly dry by now. If there is still such a vast amount of water above the firmament, why hasn't the weight of it pushed the firmament down to the ground?
See? The Bible doesn't tell us stuff like that. God didn't dictate explanations and Moses wasn't trying to make people understand the details.
The purpose of the Bible is to reveal God, and the purpose of Genesis 1 is to tell us that God created, it is his world and we have been made, by him, in his image.

So to take the Bible literally is to fail to understand it - and to imply that people don't believe the Bible because they don't believe it literally, is utterly false.
