Another Abortion-Related Arrest

Greetings to all,

I just wanted to let you know that a friend in my parish was arrested recently for approaching a woman contemplating abortion, and offering to speak with her about the dilemna. He was in a restaurant, and overheard her talking to a friend about whether or not she should get an abortion.

He approached her, and politely stated that he couldn't help overhearing her, told her he had degrees in theology and counseling, and that if she ever needed to talk, he would be available to her. She politely thanked him.

A few minutes later, the manager of the restaurant asked him to leave. He did so. The restaurant was in a mall, and as he was walking to a different area of the mall, he was arrested for trespassing, and will be in court next week.

It's a toughie isn't it! I think that your friend acted courageously and i don't agree that he should have been arrested, but if i was in a restaurant confiding in someone about something so intensely private, i quite possibly might not have been so grateful for the interruption. None of us like to feel that our most private and deeply personal problems have been overheard by others, do we?

Okay, that's just ridiculous.

Unless there's a whole lot more to this story, the behavior of the mall people is completely unacceptable. There's nothing wrong with politely offering to help people.

The "trespassing" charge is ridiculous!

There is an open invitation to all to come into a precinct or other premises open to the general public. if he is asked to leave, and refuses, only then is he trespassing.

He should sue whoever "arrested" him for wrongful arrest.

It was rhetorical. I'm just thinkin He could find a better solution than suing. I, myself, would probably sue as well for the emotional trauma and whatnot

ahh so you yourself would not even benefit from your own rhetorical statement?

I see no moral problem with suing to ensure justice be done for the benefit of ensuring that this sort of thing does not happen again. This mans rights were violated.

Legal action against the mall could help protect the rights of the unborn.
