• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was wondering if anyone thinks I really have anorexia. I havn't been diagnosed, but everyone tells me I don't eat enough. In the average day I usually eat two nutrition bars with two percent milk and crispy onions. Sometimes I'll have part of a sandwhich and a small snack. I always feel fat after eating even though I'm a bit underweight. I exercise when I feel like I need to and have been trying to everyday. I feel really horrible about myself if I eat anything more than what I mentioned.

Anorexia, as I'm sure you are aware of, is diagnosed according to not only behaviour but by your current BMI, mindset and your physiological symptoms (i.e. menstrual periods ceasing).

The issue here is that many young females, such as yourself, are on a dangerous downhill struggle, with false negative thoughts about their bodies, BUT they don't meet the "criteria" for an ED. It's hard because many girls strive for the "diagnosis" because it adds a title to their problems, and allows them to gain proper professional help faster than if they are slowly melting away. This is a very frustrating system.

My dear, you need to get some professional help. I'm assuming there are some underlying reasons for insecurities around food and body image that need to be addressed. It's not about your "weight" but about your thought patterns that is the issue. False thoughts regarding food are unhealthy and it's much better to nip them in the bud earlier than later. Talk to your chaplin at church, a school/college/work counsellor or go book an appointment with a psychologist (with a specific background in disordered eating).

You have a bright future ahead of you :) x
