• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

After recently being reported, I'm interested to hear what others think of the system here where you can anonymously report someone who's post or opinion you disagree with.
My opinion is that a better system would require posters to PM the person they were planning to report first, explaining their concern. The system as it is now, seems to me to be the equivalent of a kid running to its parent to solve every dispute it has.
I would post the topic where the infraction occured, as I can still hardly believe the irony of its being shutdown considering the board's title, but that would be against the rules.
Any thoughts?

It actually is suggested that you go to the "offender" via PM first to try and resolve the issue. I tried that once and basically got told to shove it. *shrugs* I guess it depends on what is being said and whether or not a PM would be well-received.

I don't do a lot of reporting, but if I do report, I try to have a solid reason for it.

I know the reporting people and sillyness of what offends people.....is funny to me!!

But, we're in the minority anyway, because we're more liberal and I don't think our 'viewpoints' mix well with others.

flnative knows I got reported a few weeks ago for "trying to bypass the filter", because I put ROLFM "fill in the blank" O......and it was, seriously, just a habit....I said I was sorry to the MOD, that it was a habit and he kind of laughed about the sillyness of it too.

I just take the 'seriousness' of other people 'with a grain of salt'. *shrugs*

ulu - I think part of it depends on where you are posting and what the topic is, too.

I've learned to steer clear of controversial topics as much as possible here, b/c eventually tempers will flair, someone will get nasty, and/or someone will get report-happy.

Edited to add - I will say that I've not had those problems in the Mature Singles. We're a pretty easy-going group.

Easy to get your panties in a knot on Net forums in general. People have said things to me that I would have decked them for if they had had the guts to say it to my face (not here) - too easy to hide behind a screen and / or cry to "mommy".

Yeah, people hide behind the computer screens and do things they prolly would NEVER do 'in person'. It's the same as driving a car, people get behind the wheel and are crazy, cutting people off, etc. Would they do the same not in a car?

What's with the demand for a commitment? Can't I just like you for awhile first? ;)

Well....okay. :p But 'the girls' love me!!

You're exactly right. I mistakenly posted in news/current events basically wanting to vent and debate about a new play depicting Jesus and judas as gay lovers written by a guy who wanted to explore the parallels between what Christ went through and the "persecution" he had incurred as a boy for being gay.
Usually I'm pretty serene, but for some reason this annoyed me to a great extent. Should have read the rules about "no debating" before posting there...

I have only reported 1, maybe 2 posts, both by the same person, both which offended everyone else who'd posted in the same thread (I know because every poster said so). I, in turn, was reported for having asked him to tone down his comments. That's it. But other than that person, I don't report people. It's an option I seriously considered a few times of late, but decided against.

I agree, the anonymous reporting is really, seriously annoying. Like others have said they do, I now try to avoid any thread which seems likely to degenerate into debate or which is an open debate thread. I do, however, jump in when someone I know is attacked and/or maligned. I try to keep my language and tone neutral so as not to generate more reports.
