I am the only person here who is annoyed by people who seem to think that there musical taste is better than other. The type of people that think anybody who listens who mainstream music is an idiot. When someone in this forum asks if people listen to a certain mainsteam acts, they have to answer "No, I don't listen to sucky music" instead of just saying, it isn't there thing or just ignoring the stinking topic and letting it die if they don't like it so much. I like mainstream and underground and mainstream msuic. What is wrong with just listening to music for fun and not over analyzing it and criticizing others for not liking the music you do. The elitist attitude in here is not very christian if you ask me. I'm not saying some people here aren't christian, so don't say i'm judging you, I'm just tried of some people in the music forums here.

thats pretty much everyone, well, outside these forums. Seriously, while alot of us (including me) cannot stand most mainstream music, most of us have a reason or can back up an argument, in fact, i think i've only seen once or twice (usually with the worst of the worst) any sort of phrase related to "no, they suck, listen to [bandname]" or any sort of bashing on someone for liking a band.

Trust me, many people are really openminded here

haha, I totally agree with you. I encounter a lot of criticism for the music I listen to (I think you can figure out which type) and I am totally sick of everyone insulting my musical preferences. I remember several months ago I made a topic about my favorite rap artist, and it turned into an all-out war, and it ended up getting deleted by a mod. Really, people just need to learn how to shut up once in awhile and accept opinions instead of criticizing people and sayin "Whoa, you listen to (insert music band/artist here)? I can't believe you! They are so evil! A true Christian wouldnt listen to them and blah blah blah" I've seen this on the secular music boards ever since I joined a year ago and its nauseating. Some of ya'll need to just chill....

I agree for the most part. I can understand if they don't like some bands/artists because they truly suck...but not liking an artists merely because they are mainstream or because they get quite a bit of publicity is plain stupid. I like Marilyn Manson, a complete publicity harlot to hear most people tell it, but I also like a lot of the Black Metal I've heard...some of which is underground...and I also like a lot of music that no one here likes...[which is mostly different kinds of metal...I'm not good at categorizing it though, lol, I won't even attempt it ] I like the music because it is appealing to me and I enjoy listening to it. I don't like it because no one else does. That's one of the things that has definitely annoyed me most about people is that they seem to hate musicians/bands because of publicity....not because of the music they put out. People don't like the music for the music or the message for the message *it seems.*

Well..I'm just saying I agree for the most part, and Slim Shady JB, I totally remember the ban of the Eminem thread, that was rather...um...ridiculous....

I don't usually take myself too seriously on message boards, so I wouldn't be surprised if I ****ed some people off along the way. Plus, my taste in music is better than everyone else's, so I feel entitled to rub that in to rectify my inferiority complex from time to time.

If this is not directed at something I said, I still apologize, because I'm sure at some point in the near future I will do something to offend you.

see, i think this is part of the problem though. i can't say that many bands really suck. there are alot of bands out there that have questionable levels of talent when it comes to creativity, or knowledge of music theory, or whatever. But i think it's very foolish to simply say that a band "truely sucks".

I like the music because it is appealing to me and I enjoy listening to it. I don't like it because no one else does. Exactly. I could care less about the good/bad publicity a band gets, I judge the band for the music they make, mainstream or indie or neither, and honestly there are great bands in every scene and there are terrible bands in every scene (the ratio, however, is what I think is most hotly debated).

I could care less what genre the music is, or however many/which people like/don't like them; if I like it, I like it. I use the same criteria for movies and TV, video games, and books, for the AMVs I edit, and countless other things.

EDIT: My band choices in this thread prove just how wide my tastes/disregard of popular opinion are, even if that list is a pretty minor one.

yeah, I've been reading all the posts and you people have some sweet opinions that I believe to be pretty mature. props to ya I love indie music and underground bands, but if I just happen to catch "since you've been gone" on the radio...I'll rock out. Kelly Clarkson understands. do does Avril...hardcore. Of course, I love a lot of christian bands too such as Pillar, Skillet, and Hawk Nelson. Hmmm...no...not what I meant. If the music isn't attracting to you, you don't like it, then it sucks *to you.* And yeah, much of the music I don't like sucks at pleasing me....that's why they don't get my support....it doesn't mean they aren't big, that they aren't liked, cuz many other people probably like them...but I don't. They truly suck to me. Oh well, big deal! How foolish....

well. ok.

they suck at pleasing you. but that doesn't necessarily mean they suck at songwriting, or istrumentation, or passion, or communication, or anything substantial.


sorry, i just hate seeing the word 'suck' thrown around- often attatched to people or groups that are actually pretty cool.
