Well this sounds fair :)

I'm saying that firstly because it does indeed sound fair and secondly to let you know that I am not being obnoxious about the reports for the sake of being obnoxious and that I do broadly support the staff and the changes made to the site!

Question..

Is it only possible to get one point for one post?

Or is it possible for several mods to work together "at their discretion" to get a poster banned in one or two posts?

And yes.. this has happened in the past... so are we back there again?

I feel like we're playing soccer/football :) Seems pretty straight-forward, but I desire a bit of clarification...

About the subsequent ban (aka permaban):
* does it take another 4 points to earn a permaban?
* if not, how many?

Will there be FSBs? How will those be handled or decided? What time period would be used? Will this also be at the discretion of the staff team?

That top figamajig..

Staff are allowed to give a two week ban on members accounts as a cool down period. No warning or infraction will be given.

What is this?? Even if no rules are being broken? If a person is just adamant about a topic and the mod happens to be on the opposing side.. poof?

It seems alot depends on the mods using their discretions fairly.

And secrete proceedings??? Are we under canon law again? :sigh:

Why, oh why do the infractions have to be listed first thing on one's Homepage? There was a perfect place for it on the Control Panel page. Why this change? It looks atrocious, and detracts from the invitation to others to view a member's information.

At least there should be the option for us to minimize!

I think it's not a nice thing to have people greeted by such info, where one may be trying to discover someone's testimony. Kind of mean, don't ya think?

I don't like not having access to reports. It has the potential for unfairness.

A post in violation could generate 2 points, if there were 2 egregious rule violations. It should be rare.

Or is it possible for several mods to work together "at their discretion" to get a poster banned in one or two posts?
Yes, it is possible... it should be very more rare than a post which earns 2 infraction points. Remember, the RT has staff oversight, and admins will be keeping much closer watch than ever before.

8 points are needed for a perma ban.

Points expire 6 months after they are issued. So, once could earn 3 points in the first 3 months, and then in month 9, they would expire and no longer count towards a perman ban.

Will there be FSBs?
Yes
How will those be handled or decided?
Each team will decide.

What time period would be used? Will this also be at the discretion of the staff team?
That is at the discretion of the team.

That top figamajig..

Staff are allowed to give a two week ban on members accounts as a cool down period. No warning or infraction will be given.

What is this?? Even if no rules are being broken?
The rules are very broad in scope, and staff has tremendous discretion in their application. So, a rule would need to be broken for a fsb to be issued. However, staff determines what if any rule is broken.

If a person is just adamant about a topic and the mod happens to be on the opposing side.. poof?
The staff team would need to make the call, that it was a rule violation first.

It seems alot depends on the mods using their discretions fairly.

And secrete proceedings??? Are we under canon law again? :sigh:
Yes, staff discretion plays a huge role in this. There is great latitude in interpretation. What may be a violation by one team, will not be by another. That is ok, as different forums have different needs. Ie, the dividing line for mocking God in teens is much much higher then it is in GA for example. There should be consistency across forums, but it will not exist across the site for the above reason.

We'll look into this.

Agreed, we'll see if we can fix it, so members don't see each others record. It used to be that only the member could see the record.

How can you go from a 1 month ban to a perma-ban, with no steps in between? That seems like going overboard. Shouldn't there be a 3-month ban, a 6-month ban, maybe then a perma-ban?

I don't like all this "discretion of the mods" and lack of uniformity. This is what got the forums into trouble in the first place. No one knows what the rules are, because what is given leeway in one forum would get you an infraction in another. How is that fair?

I have a question actually I have a couple

if we are starting again with an amnesty, then why is it that marks on my record still show as active warnings?

I would think if we are genuinely starting again from a new slate then all warnings and the like should be removed from our records. The one active warning I have on my record according to the new rules it has expired as it was issued in February

And secondly when I look at my home page I see this hideous list, is there no way of putting it somewhere were its less obvious?

May I request that questions and comments remain about the subject of the announcement only, please? Some of these questions and issues have already been addressed in other announcement threads that deal with that specific issue. It is easier for us to answer the questions that way, as well as making it easier that everyone concerned about said issue(s) can see that answer without my or someone else needing to repeat the same answer in 20 different places.

Thank you for your consideration of this request, and for your continued patience and understanding.

God bless,

Scratch that post

If someone knows or could direct me to the post/thread where the issue of old warnings etc are addressed, much appreciated.

Hi Freitag. They're not addressed. You're probably thinking of the "amnesties" handed out by the Theology Team and Support Team. These were related to FSBs from our forums or any hard-bans which occurred (and were still being served) based on the rules during 777. It's a decision that each individual team could make.

Since all of the old rules were pretty much policy driven and not software driven we decided to make an internal team policy change. As such, the intent was to remove reference to any FSBs served during the past few months. If there is a member that may incur a FSB in the future the intent was to not make reference to the past...in that sense we were trying to make sure that everyone had a clean slate...in a manner of speaking.

The warnings / infractions are site-wide policy and far above my (our) level to change. So...we did what we could.

The annoucement that you saw (i'm not sure if it was in support or theology) can be found here:

This is like my kids elementary school.

So, what do you have to do, to pull a card?

And, who are the card givers? Please make sure that whoever you put in charge of this can handle power. I know what happens when power corrupts those who can't handle it. And I would hate to see this become a police state site again.

Thanks.
