  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There's really nothing wrong with Anime. Most of those references to demons are either mistranslated (as has been said earlier). Those that weren't, sometimes head towards the original meaning for demon. The Greek word daemon just means "spirit" and has been used (even in the writtings of Paul) to mean what we translate as angel. Angel means "messenger", so demon would actually be a better description of heavenly beings that we call angels who don't deliever (say, guardian angels). As for symbols, it's probably Shinto or Buddhist (neither of which is demonic, except Shinto if you go with the original sense of the word demon). Aside from that, I initially was worried about things like pentagrams, but then I made it a point to find out a symbol's meanings before I pass judgement on it. For example, the pentagram was used by medieval Christians to represent the five wounds of Christ. Wiccan's use it to represent the four elements and spirit (which would be applicable for any religion that believes in a Creator). The relation with the pentagram and Satanism was actually made up about one hundred years ago by some people that didn't know what they were talking about. Try finding out what symbols mean (don't go with just the anime, either).

Are you a kabalist/hermetacist/theosphist by chance?

It all comes down to discernment and some common sense. People and viewers also have to keep in mind that Japan's social standards are different than ours(USA). For example, there was an episode of Digimon second season that never aired here because the episode dealt with suicide. One of the characters almost committed suicide with a gun.The character didn't do the act though. What might be acceptable in Japan may not be acceptable in the US or other countries.

Exactly, Graeystone...you are very much correct!

I had a friend who lived and worked in Japan for a year while she was in college. She said that so many things are so different in Japan than here in the US. One thing is that they love wearing rainbow-colored things (or at least that was the fad while she was there :) ), whereas here if you wear rainbow anything it is generally assumed to be a symbol of homosexuality (unfortunately...'cause I love rainbows!!). Also, it wasn't considered porn or even indecent if a child was shown nude in a manga or anime, as long as they were below the age of pubrity, and I saw some of the manga she had bought in Japan and it's totally true... whereas here in the US that is considered child pornography.

There were a lot of different social standards and stuff that I didn't even noticed until she told me about them and then pointed them out in different anime and manga.

Like Graeystone vbmenu_register("postmenu_16509380", true); said too, it really does come down to common sense and discercment. I always say, go with what God tells you, no matter how unpopular or dumb it sounds. He has a reason behind it, and He knows what He's doing a lot better than we do!
