But I don't follow either Pokemon or YuGiOh.Yeah, I remember when I attempted to play the first set of those games for the GBA - I was like, this sucks, what happened? I've yet to attempt playing them again - too busy hacking the first two generations of games to use on my Dreamcast (which I think I've actually finished, but for some reason trying to use the Mart in Vermillion in Gold makes the game crash).I really like some of it. I stopped liking pokemon a) after I got the game (coz it was frustrating watching the people and not being able to tell them what to do, like I could in the game), and b) after the whole gold/silver versions and everything after them.
I think there are anime which fall into both groups.![]()
Personally, I'm a fan of the anime with more complex story lines. Think Serial Experiments Lain, .hack//SIGN, Evangelion, that sort.
Aye, it does tend to have more emotional appeal to it than American shows do, at least to me; then again, I rarely watch any sort of American TV apart from sitcoms and random stuff they play on cable, not hour-long police dramas or murder mysteries or whatnot. Those started to rub me the wrong way after freshman year when one of our guest speakers brought in real crime scene and autopsy photos (funny enough, though, it only really bothers me in the context of stuff like CSI and all that; I loved watching Elfen Lied and one of these days I'll get around to watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni).Either by having some awesome action, some crazy humor, or a much cuter and nicer atmosphere when I'm in the mood for something to calm me down.
It depends on who you ask. Personally, I believe it to be completely uncool.
Of course, that's according to my personal definition of "uncool".
If you want to know how the rest of Japan sees anime fans, I suggest you watch Genshiken or Welcome to the NHK! or maybe Densha no Otoko (the series).
Enlightening stuff if you never thought about it before. After that, you'll be faced with the choice of accepting what you've become, or pursuing new interests.
But while some of us don't care, there are some that do, or else we wouldn't have this thread.
That, and something called guilty pleasures.
Oh, and MMORPG-playing anime fans owe it to themselves to watch Welcome to the NHK! episode 15.
