• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I feel so much anger towards someone who was very abusive to me. I just want to move on with life. My parents are not supportive with me seeking counseling to help me cope with PTSD, anxiety, depression etc. I am 20 years old.

I'd rather not go into too much detail - it's not important.

Painful, unwanted memories are the worst.

BTW, I was diagnosed with PTSD around September or October of 2015...it's been a very painful, rough journey.

It can take a long time to recover from abuse issues. I'm sorry your parents are not supportive. God is though! Stick close to him as best you can. He can help you heal. He has helped me heal. It has taken a long time though.

I truly hope that you seek out help regardless of how your parents feel about it. You need it.

As young as you are, I can imagine that money might be an issue, so your parents' support would be beneficial. But you could seek free or inexpensive counseling to maybe help tide you over, if nothing else it could provide someone who is caring and supportive to listen to you. Some sources could be people in ministry, counseling/psychology interns, non-profit organizations, sometimes work places or colleges/universities provide counseling services.

I have been in poverty most of my life, but I can almost find someone who can give me some kind of therapuetic or spiritual counseling for free or inexpensively. It isn't always the best, but sometimes it is exactly what I need, or at least it is just enough to keep me going until I can find someone else who can help me a little better. I almost always have a counselor of some kind.
