  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anger is a sin ...

Jesus sinned then and we are doomed and lost

And he said to them, “Is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored. (Mark 3:4, 5 LEB)

Anger is not a sin, it is only when we stew over it and allow it to fester preventing us from loving in the future that it becomes so. If someone angers you you, seek reconciliation with them. if they refuse then give it to God and move on.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun set on your anger, (Ephesians 4:26 LEB)

I agree with the OP … in part. But it is recorded that Jesus was angry on an occasion (Mark 3.5) and I would challenge the fact that it caused him to lose the power of prayer. But I do agree with you that anger/rage is dangerous and foolish and it is best to control it, but to say that every act of anger is a sin is stretching it, IMO. It is possible be angry and sin not, if I interpret Eph. 4.26 correctly. :)

I was Always taught that getting angry is a sin, so you Always have to laugh and let everybody walk over you, which makes that at one point you explode and sin. If you get angry don't sin. I'm starting to learn that it is not a sin to get angry and that you can speak up for yourself. When I get really angry I try to get angry of the devil. My kid said: Mommy you pray so funny. You rotten devil get out of my house NOWWWWWW! I bind that spirit of anger, OUT!! in Jesus' Name.

I think the difference between righteous anger (Jesus) and the unrighteous kind (mine) is that Jesus was angry for all the right (unselfish) reasons and my anger usually arise from my own self-centeredness and egotism—somebody is always crowding my space.

When Jesus drove out the money changers he was angry, and some of the name calling he said to the pharisees are to imagine him being anything but angry, Paul got angry too, and the Psalms have anger. God even made an oath out of anger, saying they shall not enter his rest.

Just because Jesus was reported to be angry at the money changers or with his disciples due to lack of faith is not a good reason for us to be angry with our brothers.

Jesus was God and it is also okay to be perfect even though we are human persons and Jesus lives in us doesn't mean we are perfect.

Anger is not one of the listed fruits of the holy Spirit is it?

Mark 11:25-26 NCV

So I tell you to believe that you have received the things you ask for in prayer, and God will give them to you. When you are praying, if you are angry with someone, forgive him so that your Father in heaven will also forgive your sins. [But if you don’t forgive other people, then your Father in heaven will not forgive your sins.]”

Plus I am talking about prayer ... Why would God hear your prayer if you have ought against someone?

Jesus made a whip and flipped over tables... how can he be anything but angry? Wow, talk about being blind to scripture just to make it fit a doctrine...

I wish people would stop trying to forbid or imply that normal healthy emotions are against God. Its not wonder we have a church with many people who feel unable to be honest before God and with their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. They stuff their emotions which leads to a whole host of other problems

Anger is a normal emotion in response to something that has happened to us.

Fear is a normal emotion when we encounter something scary.

Sadness is also a normal emotion when we encounter somethiing sad, or see something sad

I could go on.

The emotion is not the problem its how we handle it that may be.

Some people around here know my story, and for many years I used my fear from the result of a very bad situation as an excuse for walking away from God. In the last week my dear friend lost her husband unexpectedly leaving her a widow with four children. I felt angry because they are a solid christian family who a person may only ever meet people like them once in a life time but you are a better person for having known them . It was so very very unfair.... Seeing that despite her anger and heartbreak, she still very strongly believes in her christian faith.

I ended up feeling that if she can go through that, i have no excuse for continuing to be angry at God. Its going to be a journey however I've been really blessed to be in a church with awesome people who are very authentic.

God heard me when I was in a very dark angry place.

Very true... prayer is more about who we are in Christ and our heart before God than it is about external things...

We shouldn't tell people not to pray or it's pointless to pray if they are angry or whatever... even if a person is "out of God's will" it's never a bad time to pray.

Anger is not good for you young or old.

Anger can lead to fretting:

fret noun
15th century
1 a : the action of wearing away : EROSION
b : a worn or eroded spot
2 : an agitation of mind : IRRITATION

and Psalm 37 is as good wisdom.

Squelch it ... and be a better person.

Psalm 37 1-8

Don’t be upset because of evil people.
Don’t be jealous of those who do wrong
,
2[bless and do not curse] because like the grass, they will soon dry up.
Like green plants, they will soon die away.

3[bless and do not curse] Trust the LORD and do good.
Live in the land and feed on truth.
4[bless and do not curse] Enjoy serving the LORD,
and he will give you what you want.
5[bless and do not curse] Depend on the LORD;
trust him, and he will take care of you.
6[bless and do not curse] Then your goodness will shine like the sun,
and your fairness like the noonday sun.

7[bless and do not curse] Wait and trust the LORD.
Don’t be upset when others get rich
or when someone else’s plans succeed.
8[bless and do not curse] Don’t get angry.
Don’t be upset; it only leads to trouble.

And anger CAN be good.

Some of the ways:

Anger can be a very useful emotion to help us to know when something wrong is happening to us, like when a personal boundary is being violated.

Anger can motivate us in a good way to take action and make necessary changes.

Anger can help us to understand ourselves, and perhaps even to change, if we will take time to analyze 'why' we are angry.

Uncontrolled anger can be horribly destructive, but anger that is understood and managed can prove to be very helpful.

A spiritual law I have learned is that if you get angry ... you lose your power to pray. amen
I do not believe that anger in and of itself is a sin. It's when we get angry over things that there is no need to be angry about that we allow the anger to overcome our hearing of the Holy Spirit and we lose ability to operate in the Spirit. Eph 4:26 says, "in your anger do not sin". Some things we should be angry about but should choose to not sin in the process. Many things people get angry about things that are of little importance or value to the Kingdom of Heaven. That anger is sin.

Anger is not good for you young or old.

Anger can lead to fretting:

Simply repeating previous statements does not prove your point. My anger at my friend loosing the love of her life lead me back to God, properly back I mean

According to you, that was not good
