  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The bible says (Psalm 8:5) that when man was created, they were created a little lower than the angels. What does that mean? It means that in some aspects for now at least, angels possess some characteristic superior to ours. For example, they can float from one side of the universe to the other side of the universe in less than a nanosecond, but we humans cannot do that now. However, Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6, that those redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ, will one day be lifted up higher than the angels and will be given authority to rule over God’s angels.

I am told that the moon which is our closest neighbour is 240,000 miles away from the earth. It is mind boggling for me to think of the other planets which are billions of miles away. I just can’t fathom that Venus is approx. 160 million miles away from us. Or that Saturn is approx. 750 million miles away, or that Neptune is approx. 3 billion miles away from earth.

Apparently, it took 12 good years for the Voyager 2 spacecraft to reach as closest to planet Neptune while travelling at an average staggering speed of 42,000 mph. But guess what? It does not matter wherever an angel may be in the entire universe because, at the very command of God, they are down here in less than a nanosecond helping and protecting us as directed by God.

As I ponder on all these things, I think we all ought to take time out to think of the vast God who has all these myriads of angels at his service. We ought to take time out to think about the depths of God’s ocean of creation. We really ought to take time out to think of the awesomeness of the mighty God we serve! Unfortunately, everything in this world is pulling us to believe that all the reality is what we can see, but we should go beyond that and focus on the spiritual reality that is awaiting us all. Every now and then, we should take time out from this passing and disappearing world and contemplate the day we will pierce that veil into the spiritual world.

Angels…
Awesome Post but you should realize angle in scripture means messenger and can be referring to human as well as spiritual messenger.

Thanks for reading. I am aware that the word angel means messenger. However, I am not aware of anywhere in the scripture where the word "angel" is used to refers to us humans. Please feel free to share a verse if you know of one. From my knowledge of the Bible, it was only the pre-incarnate Christ, the God-man, The Angel of the Lord who is distinctively distinguished from all other angelic hierarchy and angelic beings was the only messenger referred to with the word Angel in titled.

Malachi 2:7 is one place where the Hebrew word angel is used for men. Strong note says: a messenger, specifically of God, i.e. an angel (also a prophet, priest or teacher)

I think it could be used of any Christian as we are all to be messengers of God to the Gospel.

One place I do think many try to apply the word angel meaning a heavenly being wrongfully is Genesis 6:2 the sons of God taking to themselves daughters of men. I do not believe there has ever existed a race of hybrid men on the earth. (Just interesting things to ponder.) : )

Interesting, thanks for your reply. I don't understand all of scripture, but I am convinced with all my heart that there is certainly a clear difference between humans and angels even if the human is a messenger from God. I think when we read a certain passage, it is important to put it in its context and I will say this applies to Malachi 2:7 too. For example in another context, the bible refers to God as the Lion of Judah while at the same time in another context refers to Satan as a roaring lion looking for whom to devour. In another passage, Jesus and Satan are both referred to as the morning star... The point I am trying to make is that I think the important thing is to understand the context of the message.

With regards, to Genesis 6:2, I honestly have no idea who the "sons of God" are. I wouldn't worry about it though, but I might look into later. Thanks for bringing to my attention.
