  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Quite frankly, I believe that God would communicate with Pat Robertson before He would even acknowledge the existance of Andy Rooney. Sorry!

As a Christian, I believe that the reverse is actually true.

And I won't even apologize for it.

OK, so... I'm looking for the allegedly "anti-Christian" sentiments, and... I'm not finding them.

This is an intelligent, witty and insightful piece of writing. It is positive, not negative - and it definitely doesn't criticize Christianity.

Some people's skins are too thin, IMHO.

I agree. Its criticism is directed at Robertson, not Christianity. And Robertson needs to get called out on that ludicrous statement he made.

Yah, he's definately lost it when God is chatting to him about politics. But hey, maybe his followers will figure that it's going to be such a blowout that they won't have to vote. So maybe he's doing God's work after all :D

Actually, doing some research (sorry - should have done this first) shows that "60 minutes" has actually had a resurgence this year in the ratings...the Jacko interview helped them quite a bit

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/13/tv.60minutes.ap/

so, I'm obviously not correct in saying it's losing viewers - but I personally would prefer the show w/o Rooney and his opinions....

I basically also lost a lot of faith in the show when Don Hewitt gave the Clintons a free pass in 1992 on the show (and later confessed he knew they were lying):

George Stephanopoulous was present at the taping:

But I was just thinking something else about Don Hewitt there. During the interview, he would come in. There would be breaks every once in a while. There was that moment when the lights fell on the Clintons and Clinton shielded Hillary. But Hewitt kept coming in and kneeling down in front of them as they sat in their chairs and said, "Just say yes or no. Just say yes or no. Then we'll move on." It was like a movie director. And he would say, "Listen, I elected a John Kennedy with the debates in 1960. I'm going to elect you in 1992. Just say yes or no." George Stephanopoulous

Could you please give me a link? I've searched all over trying to find a source for that quote and I have come up empty-handed.
Just, I watched Imus this morning and heard him say it - but couldn't find the transcript on MSNBC.com site - but Here's another link that discusses Rooney's quotes on the show.

I was wrong to post what I did without the proviso - IMHO. That is the only way I feel I was wrong! God speaks to those who love him in ways that have nothing to do with hearing a voice! Before I was a Christian, Rooney's piece would not have bothered me. Now, ... well you know how I feel.

Thanks, Chuck, for the info!

Minus,
JLovesUSo gave a link where Rooney said:
"I mean, I don't want to pay $9 just for a few laughs."
and
"I mean, it's absurd to invent God to unburden our problems on him," he told Imus. "And, on the other hand, there are so many questions that are unanswered that, you know, we're looking for some solution to it. And we have invented God."

I'm not sure of everything rises to the level of bashing Christianity, but I do agree that "just for a few laughs" was a very dumb thing to say. I don't understand the point myself.

P.S. - Chuck_Darwin - Thanks for checking the celeb atheist site. I should have thought to check there myself.

Sorry didn't bother to click on the link. Figured it just backed up what JLovesUSo already posted.
