  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And then the end will come

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, ' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:3-14 NIV )

But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? I die every day--I mean that, brothers--just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord. If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God--I say this to your shame. So, when will the end come?
I'm opinionated on the matter.

I draw from Acts 1 and Zechariah 14, while crossing over to the union of the last chapter of Joel due to the events having overlap that seems to paint an apocalyptic picture.

Acts 1 has Jesus Ascend from the Mount of Olives and Zechariah 14 has Him essentially "superman land" back at the exact same spot, as the Angel told the Apostles He would return.

What does that all mean for timing? Genuinely, only God knows.

So, when will the end come?
Alright, give me a few minutes. Plugged this into the AI, which is hooked up with dozens of theological documents. :)

Before the AI answers, I will give my short answer: The timing of the End (the final day) will not be known, as Jesus stated we will not know the hour of his return (Matthew 24:36), though there will be signs of the End Times, as stated in 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Alright, @Xeno.of.athens , here is the AI response:

The Bible teaches that no one knows the exact time or date of the end of the age and the coming of Christ (Matthew 24:36). However, it does provide some signs to look for. Jesus mentions wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, betrayal, false prophets, growing wickedness, and the preaching of the gospel worldwide as potential indicators. The Apostle Paul also emphasizes that if Christ has not been raised from the dead, then our faith is futile (1 Corinthians 15:12-34). So, while we cannot predict when the end will come, we should remain vigilant and steadfast in our faith. It's important to remember that the Bible encourages us not to live in fear of these events but rather to continue living a life worthy of God (Matthew 24:13).

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:3-14 NIV )

Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he "has put everything under his feet."

So, when will the end come?
1. Right after Rev 14:6 completes (6-12 actually)
2. when that completes - vs 6-12 then Christ appears
a. and wipes out the unsaved as 2 Thess 1;5-8 says.
b. And raptures the saints as Matt 24:29-31 and as 1 Thess 4:13-18 says.
c. and ends death for all the saints as we see at the end of Dan 7, and in Matt 24, and in Rev 21...

Rev 14:6-12

6 And I saw another angel flying in midheaven with an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation, tribe, language, and people; 7 and he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth, and sea and springs of waters.”

8 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.”

9 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” 12 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

So, when will the end come?
It depends on context. There is no single static meaning for the term "end." The end of what?

When history winds down in the present drama, there will be a number of different endings. There will be an end to the age when Chrsitianity is persecuted, namely the present age. And there will be an end to the old creation entirely, with a complete remodeling of our environment to bring about eternal blessedness for God's People.

These things may happen in stages. And some of it will depend on your Millennial perspective.

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

For me, Jesus is here referring to the introduction of a period of time when the previous age and its character has completely changed. Its era is over, when Satan instigates the human race and creates an international revolt against God on earth.

This may lead to a period of time in which mortal mankind experiences relative peace, even if the Sin Nature continues to exist in men. But they will no longer be provoked into large-scale rebellion, politically, against God's Kingdom on earth--not until Satan is released at the end of the Millennium.

Of course, you'd have to be a Premillennialist to believe this! I acknowledge the legitimacy of the Amillennialist position, as well, although it is not my own position.

"Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death."

This refers to the defeat of death at the 1st Resurrection. While mortal existence may continue for some, Death experiences its initial defeat at the Return of Christ to raise God's People from the dead. That is when "Death is defeated," and the end of mortal judgment has ended for the saints.

If you're an Amillennialist, the "End" takes place at Christ's Coming, period. There is no literal Millennium, replete with mortal people and a later rebellion against God instigated by Satan. The Age of Blessedness begins immediately with an immediate change of the Earth's environment to eliminate all Sin in mankind.

This is a peace making stance that strives to address possible views!

Respect!

As my old Presbyterian pastor used to say, "No man knows the day or the hour". Christ made it clear that even He didn't know.

I most likely differ on the "end times" scenario compared to most Christians. I have no doubt that God will wind up the universe one day and it will be a shocking event. It adds up to zero anyway, started from zero and will go back to nothing.

As far as I'm concerned it's a stage prop for the human race. Just looking at the earth itself, it is composed of a very useful array of heavy minerals, when the rest of the universe is abouit 74% hydrogen and 24% helium making 98% of observable matter.

But here we are with ernormous amounts of fossil fuels, iron ore, aluminium, urianium, and all the rest - pretty much the entire periodic table.

And despite the colossal forces which comprise our nuclear make-up, what do they all add up to most of the time - "just another nice day".

Most of our biochemical reactions require enzymes to act as catalysts. No enzymes - no reactions. All components of our biochemistry had to develop simultaneously.

Another coincidence I suppose?

Anyway I think God is going to drive us off the planet and out into the universe. I think we'll learn to teleport down the track using the strange phenomena of quantum entanglement. Meanwhile He's already allowing us to muck around with space travel, robotics, AI and all the other tools we'll need if He does drive us off the planet.

The way we're going with our nuclear weaponry and two powers with nuclear arms at war right now (Israel and Russia), with tensions between nuclear armed India and Pakistan, the USA and China, I think it's just a matter of time before we create the conditions ourselves.

He allowed the USA to use nuclear weapons twice in war - as far as I'm concerned that was a divine warning sign. This will be the result if you keep going the way you are.

I think the "last days" are a bit further off than some - I don't subscribe to a "Rapture" for a start.

But no man knows the day or the hour.

(1 Corinthians 15:12-34 NIV )

So, when will the end come?
Well first the Apostles asked Him about the " end of the age" and He answered them about the age they were currently in. All of these things took place between the time of Jesus Christ of Nazareth's ascension and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD.
Now the end of world is a different thing altogether. This will happen in a twinkle of an eye.

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

So, when will the end come?
I will add this. In studying the book of Hebrews forensically and legally, I discovered an oddity.

Hebrews 1:2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,...
The words "in these last days" evoke the Jewish concept of "acharit-hayamim".
The term means; "end of days" in English. It's a term that appears multiple times in the Tanakh and is used in Judaism to refer to the end times."
This acharit-hayamim involved the fulfilment of Old Covenant eschatology, including the Resurrection of those in God. In a sense, there are two usages of "End Times" in full biblical Canon. There is the usage which pertains to the Old Covenant and the usage which fulfills the New Covenant Eschatology. The term is specifically referenced by the Koine Greek in Hebrews 1:2. To be entirely honest, when it's context is fully understood, it is impossible to deviate from the reality that the 1st Resurrection started with Jesus and is taking place until the appointed time of Christ's Return.

I would have never known this if I hadn't have looked so closely at Hebrews.

-
Jesus is addressing the end of the age and that will come to and end when Jesus returns (second coming), locks away satan and starts His 1000 year rule on earth. The Messianic age.

Not sure what 1 Corinthians 15 has to do with Matthew 24. As 1 Corinthians 15 is addressing believers who say there is no resurrection of the dead.
