I used to hunt pheasants and trained English Springer Spaniels for hunting pheasants.
One dog I had had a bad temper. A pro gun dog trainer and owner looked at the dog a
and asked me if she was "tramp?" Tramp was the name given to Springer Spaniels, which
the dog show people tried to breed, which would have predominately liver color with some
white spots. "I said, no, but she has a bad temper when she has a bone or is eating food." She'll
show her teeth when going near her. He automatically said, "put a bullet in its head."
I thought that was a cruel statement to make about my dog. However, 2.5 years later,
after not being able to break her, that same dog attacked my daughter, and we had to take her
to the ER for the dog wounds on her fingers. I had to put the dog down, despite trying
to give her away to other hunters. She was a good hunter, but a dog with a bad disposition which
I could not break.
FYI, the next English Springer was great with kids and a great hunter. I had her 14 years before age
issues made me put her down.
In all, don't try and compare opposition to abortion to dog ownership and such.
